I have recorded a home video for myself on DVD but wish to personalise it for a friend by adding text overlays at certain points.

But i cannot see the vob files under "all supported files" for importing into a new project

How best can this be done??

Will i have to convert to mpeg and will i lose quality and/or audio-video sync and what tool is recommended

PS the original raw cut video is no longer with me

You've probably read some posts where we advise that "avi" is a carrier or wrapper, that can contain hundreds of different format types. Well VOB is a carrier, that contains MPEG files, and other information DVD players need to be able to read the file.

So to import or insert a VOB file into VS you can do it in a couple of ways;

1. Right-click and select Insert DVD\DVD-VR, or AVCHD, then in the dialog window that opens browse to your DVD drive and select the Video_TS folder. VS will then parse the files in the folder and present you with the Titles and Chapters in a 2-paned window. Place a check in the box beside the Titles and/or Chapters you want to insert.

2. Change the extension of the files from VOB to MPEG, then just insert it as any other MPEG file. You will have to copy the Video_TS folder from the DVD to a location on your hard drive..
