Video Studio 11; can't upgrade to 11.5

Post by whatagem »

I bought Ulead Video Studio 11 from some cat on eBay. He sent me a serial number which I registered & downloaded the installer. I installed VS 11 & then I clicked on the Upgrade to 11.5 For Free within Corel's website.

Now, I'm not the most PC-smart gal, to say the least, but I am having a bit of trouble with this upgrade. After clicking the free upgrade link, I downloaded something & the icon on my desktop says UVS11_Plus_ESD_ENG_Power Pack

The second icon says
Ulead Video Stuido 11.5 Plus

However, when ever I click on it, all it wants to do is uninstall my previous version of Video Studio. I click it again, and all it does is install video studio 11 !!!

...and so on and so on.

What am I doing wrong? If you need to know more info about what I've downloaded or my PC--just tell me how to find it & I will provide such info. If anyone here can help me, please explain things as you might to a child--I get such a headache with this sort of thing! :-D

Welcome to the forums,

I hope this is not yet another "Ebay gotcha"...

Did you purchase VS11 (plain or what we call the vanilla version)? If so you can not upgrade to the 11.5 Plus. The upgrade is only for the Plus versions.

If your version is 11.0 Plus then you should be able to install to the upgrade, by:
1. Installing the Update Pack. This is a service pack or fixes and patches.
2. Installing the Power Pack. This upgrades your 11.0 + version to 11.5 +.

Again the key here is Plus, no plus no upgrade...:(

It is 11 Plus. I don't believe it's a "gotcha"; all the feedback was very nice for the seller on this particualr product. I spoke with one if the other buyers. He told me to first DL the 11 Update Pack & install it (I have done so) then to DL & install the 11 Power Pack (I have also done that)

Now when I click the icon that says Ulead Video Studio 11.5 plus, it had unistalled the 11 plus version (again!)

I've been sitting at my PC for 2 hours again. Should I clcik the icon & see if it wants to install 11.5 plus? I am at the point of not wanting to do anything until I'm told! I've been staring at green progress bars just too long

I'm about as patient as a 6yr old! Of course I clicked on the 11.5 plus icon to open it & it went thru the motions of normal installation. Then I got the point of destination folders, etc & it is referring to itself as Video Studio 11 plus.....not 11.5 So I cancelled & now I am typing this

I gotta take a little break or this PC is gonna get chunked out a window! Please, tell me what I should do, step by step. I would most sincerely appreciate any help with this issue

The only thing that I can think of is that the icon you're clicking on is not a shortcut icon, but an icon for the installer. My desktop icon does not say VideoStudio 11 Plus, just Ulead VideoStudio 11. Hover your mouse over the icon and it should produce a tooltip showing the path the icon leads to, for example C:\Program Files\Ulead Systems.... which is the default folder Ulead uses to install it's programs. There will be a folder under the Ulead Systems folder called Ulead VideoStudio 11, then the executable file is called vstudio.exe.

Shorcut Icon to Program Executable file:

Installer File:

You can also navigate to the executable file, click on it and see if the program launches...

The icon looks like the second picture with the funky arrows in the box. But it does say Video Studio 11.5 Plus. When I hover mouse over it, a yellow box pops up stating:
Company: Corel
File Version: 4.1.100.1332
Date Created: 8-8-08
Size: 137MB

I went under Properties of this file & it lists the file as an Application. When I double click the icon, or select open it installs (or uninstalls) 11 Plus (NOT 11.5 plus arrrrr!)

I don't understand what you mean as far as locating the folder...How do I open that up so I access the executable file?

It wouldn't be such a big deal but I really like the features that 11.5 plus has to offer

here is what I have done:
I clciked on the VS11.5 plus icon & it installed 11 plus
I reinstalled the patch & the power pack

I got a desktop icon that looks like something you can open & run (the little CD with an arrow) I open it

VS 11 plus opens except in the center of the screen a progress bar appears stating
0% Please Wait

After 1 minute a box pop up stating
Ulead has encountered a problem & needs to close....send error report, debug, don't send error report....you know the old standard ugly box.

I just don't know what to do I am almost to the point of not caring about the upgrade anymore, I just wanted to play with my new toy

I decided to start from scratch. Here are the instructions from the seller of the software:
Complete these steps to receive your software.
1. Copy and paste the following URL into your web browser and hit "enter"
(Link Removed by Forum Administrator)
2. Enter the password: xxxxxxx
3. Download the installer.
4. Double click on the "Ulead.VideoStudio 11.5 Plus.exe" file to install.
5. Enter your serial number, its easier to copy and paste it.
Your Serial #: xxxxxxxxxx
* This serial code is registered to you only and has not been used by anyone else.
* If for some reason your serial code does not work please contact me asap!!!
7. Continue going through the installation process until you finish. Also you can register your serial number online to verify authenticity and to receive updates on your software

When I decided to start from scratch, I uninstalled & deleted the 11.5 plus installer. The only thing I left on the PC was the Power Pack & the patch.

After downloading the installer, I clicked the icon of it on my desktop and allowed it to install Video Studio 11 plus.
After it was installed, I opened VS 11plus and the Register screen appear (as opposed to the error screen)

Looks like it is working OK. Now....what should I do to upgrade to 11.5 plus? Please tell me step by step with links if necessary. On my desktop, I already have

UVS11_Patch_Eng122507-03
UVS11_Plus_ESD_ENG_PowerPack

Which is what someone told me I needed to DL & install in this particular order

For real, this time, I'm not doing a single thing until someone tells me what to do. How do I upgrade?

IF you have been supplied with a genuine copy of VideoStudio 11+
then you need to do the following to convert it to 11.5+

Patch 1.
Ulead VideoStudio 11 Update Pack (Release Date: 2007/11/6) 27 MB

Patch 2.
Ulead VideoStudio 11 Plus Power Pack (Release Date: 2007/11/8 ) 54 MB

You will only be able to obtain Patch 2 by registering your copy of VideoStudio on the Corel Website. This will require you to enter your serial number for VideoStudio 11+ : if it accepts it then your software should be genuine, if someone else has already used that serial number or if it is not a genuine serial number it will not allow you to register.

I downloaded the file you linked to (and have now removed that link)
The file downloaded is NOT a complete package.

The link allows you to download an installation file purporting to be
Ulead.VideoStudio 11.5 Plus.exe
The link did NOT require
2. Enter the password: xxxxxxx
Examination of this single file shows a file size of 141,185 kb. I checked the contents of the file with Winzip

This is in fact the identical VideoStudio 11.0+ file that you download from Corel
uvs11_plus_(e).exe 141,185 KB

What you should have ALSO been given were download links for the following:
uvs11_plus_contentpack_(e).exe 274,498 KB
uvs11_bonuscd_(e).exe 321,986 KB

The link you pointed to also is a "Free Hosting Site" - not the sort of thing I would expect of a commercial enterprise. I use Free Hosting Services to provide material to forum members - such as home made DVD Menus or missing/corrupt files.

That whole password thing was weird--the 1st time I did it, it asked for the password. When I decided to begin from scratch, I went to the link again & it did not ask for a password.

(When I first DL'd the software inthe beginning I was able to register the serial number on Corel's website. When prompted for serial number in the installation prcoess, it accepts the serial number as valid. This is why i thought every thing was going smooth)

These other 2 things you mention, the content pack & bonus CD....what are they for & where will I find them?

I am currently downloading the content pack (ONE HOUR download time!!)....what are these things for? Are they supposed to aid in the upgrade?

Am I the only one who's had this much trouble upgrading? When I clicked on the Upgrade For Free link within Corel's website, there was only one file to download. I've since received three more things to download in order to upgrade.....

Just a quick recap:
You did NOT purchase your copy of VideoStudio from an OFFICIAL source, this is why you are having problems. The download link supplied to you by members of this Web Board is an attempt by our members to assist you - again these are not download links provided by Corel.

This is the risk you take when you buy things from an unofficial source such as Ebay - It is very risky and although you have managed to register the serial number the Ebay seller supplied I am not entirely convinced your version is fully legitimate.

Why is that the seller from Ebay is not providing you with
1. The extra download links (That we have now supplied to you)
2. Why is the seller using a Free Web Hosting Site to supply you with this software.
3. Has this seller also offered a boxed version of the software
(i.e. a copy on a CD with a manual)

You are lucky - your serial number has on this occasion worked and our members have assisted you with the missing "extras"

Once you install the extra content you will see for yourself what this seller has failed to provide.
