I have read with interest the post Fit project to 4.7 gig DVD. However there are a couple of points that I would be grateful if you could clarify.

In Share/Create Video File, if I chose PAL DVD (16:9) then there seems to be nothing in Options allowing the Bit Rate to be changed. However, I notice that if I choose Custom then, under Options/Compression/ Video Settings, I can change the Video Data rate. Is this how I change the Bit Rate?

Also, at the top of the Options/Compression box there is a sliding scale labelled Speed & Quality with a default setting of 70. What exactly does this do, and should I leave it at 70? Sliding the pointer about produces no observable result and does not seem to alter the Bit Rate.

Yes, you change the bitrate by choosing the Custom option. Just make sure your other settings are correct (for PAL).

The slider you refer to presumably effects the rendering time. If you are more concerned about the quality of the render rather than the speed, move it to 100%. If speed is more of an issue, leave it at the default position.

To change the bit rate I use the Make Movie Manager from Tool to create a NEW template.
By using the Add option I can create a template from an existing video file.
I then edit the template changing only the bit rate.

I now have a new template using the original video properties with the exception of the bit rate.

The template is available from Share Create Video File, near the Custom option.

Dont forget that because of the way the actual capacity of a DVD is
calculated it does not have 4.7 GB of space.It is about 4.489 MB and 4.3
GB is generally considered the safe amount yo put on it.............Ken
