Originally my pictures showed up as:
1. dimensions
2. Type: ulead photo
3. Size

Now they show up as:
1. Type: file
2. Date Modified
3. Size

I am using Windows XP and Microsoft claims that it is not their problem. Now that I am supplying you with more information, perhaps it will help with this mystery. Thanks for your patients. Janet
In windows Explorer click the views button and select the item at the bottom of the list "Details"
Now Right click on one of the column headings and you will see a list of available columns, tick those you want, untick any you don't want.

I cannot get my newly scanned pictures to come up in JPEG

Post by rctfdd »

Ticking the ones that I want works for all my old pictures. It does not work for the new ones that I recently scanned.

I went to Image Properties and all my old picutres have:
Format "JPEG file interchange format"

The new pictures that I am scanning and saving as a JPEG file come up with:
Format "Ulead File for objects"

Will I always have to type ".JPEG" after the file name for everything that I now scan and save as a JPEG file? Janet

Aha I think we are getting somewhere.
Ulead file for Objects is the default SAVE format for PhotoImpact with an extension ufo for example a picture called janet would be saved as janet.ufo

To save in a different format such as jpg you need to choose "Save As" rather than "Save" you can then select a format from the list - including jpg.

If you have a VISTA operating system then you will only see icons and not thumbnails, this is a design feature of VISTA by Microsoft. Don't completely know why but Microsoft have prevented various file extension formats from displaying thumbnails - according to them it is a security measure against computer viruses.

no change, I still get an icon vs a thumbnail

Post by rctfdd »

I tried everything, all with the same result.

When I first start up PI, it comes up as untitled-1.ufo for both saved and saved as. After I change that to JPG then the next picture comes up as untitled-2.jpg for both saved and saved as. Once I delete the untitled-2.jpg and enter a new name, it stills comes up as an icon verses a thumbnail.

I am grateful that you found me a solution. I just don't understand why I now have to add .jpg after the name. That may never be resolved and I can live with it.

I am glad that it did not start before I scanned and saved my daughter's 12 albums (about 6,500 pictures on one CD).

I am not sure what a VISTA operating system is. I have Windows designed for Microsoft Windows XP on the front of my computer so I think that is my operating system.

Since this all started when I downloaded Microsofts new update, perhaps they have added more items like Vista that show only icons. I would ask them but they charge about $60 for a query.

Thanks, Janet
