Recommended freeware programs to compliment VideoStudio.

Earlier I was recommended a simple freeware program called WinDV to capture DV for use later in VideoStudio. A simple yet powerful program.

What freeware programs or tools would you recommend that could compliment VideoStudio and make the whole process of film making easier, professional or just more exciting.
