Installing VS11.5+ over VS 11

Post by RDK45 »

Way back when I bought VS 11 as an upgrade for VS 10. Since then I have decided that I want some of the features in VS11+, so last week I bought that version and downloaded the installer, the patches, the powerpack, the content pack and the Media pack, whew...

Now I'm wondering if I can install over my current VS11 instalation or if I should uninstall VS 11?

Your thoughts and recommendations?.......RDK

I read his original post as suggesting he had originally bought the vanilla, non-PLUS version of VS11, and has now bought the upgrade to VS11+/11.5+. The Power Pack will only upgrade you to VS11.5+ if you have VS11 *PLUS*... Otherwise, though, I would think VS11+ would overwrite VS11, then you do the update patch and Power Pack in the order Steve suggested.

Ahh yes he had me worried for a minute that he had wasted some money.
I think if you have VS11 (NON plus) then the Plus version will tell you that a directory of that name already exists and ask you to install it elsewhere or remove the other copy.

This only applies to same versions, if you were lets say installing VS11 and already had VS10 then it would install VS11 leaving VS10 intact and you could use both (one at time of course).

Thanks for the info. Yes, I have the original "non-Plus" version installed which I will now "modify" to be the Plus version.

Perhaps I will install the old non-Plus version on my wifes PC.

Is there any news about a version 12??...RDK
