Bringing back edited AVCHD video to Canon HG10

Post by tanzer1 »

As many of you probably have figured out, there is no software that can bring back an EDITED AVCHD format to a CANON HG10 and I suspect the same is true for many other hard drive HD cameras. Here is a convoluted work around that works.

1. Edit your AVCHD video clips.
2. Burn an AVCHD DVD with the edited clip.
3. Initialize the hard drive on the camera and shoot a "bogus" video that is the same time length as the edited AVCHD video you have just finished
4. Connect the camera to the computer in its play mode and copy the files from the DVD from the "stream", "clipinf", "playlist", and main BDMV folder to the hard drive of the camera in each of those directories.
5. You will notice there are extra letters in the extensions of the files you have just copied from the DVD files compared to the "bogus video" file names. Erase the original files in each directory on the camera hard drive from the "bogus" video you shot, and change all the extensions on the imported DVD files to match what you just erased.
6. Disconnect the camera from the computer and in play mode you will see a still image of the first frame of your bogus video, however if you play it, it will be your edited AVCHD video.

Try it and let me know. It will NOT trash your hard drive of the camera and you can always reinitialize the hard disk of the camera.
