Video Studio 8 Visual c ++ runtime error

This could be caused by spyware or a version mismatch between the Microsoft C/C++ runtime DLLs. If you installed a new program (or one was installed without your knowledge, lots of spyware has mechanisms to silently download new programs to your computer) and an older version of the runtime DLLs was installed, it could cause problems. If you haven't kept your system up-to-date with the latest Microsoft security updates, it would be easy to infect your system even if you have a firewall and antivirus program.
I would first run a Full Scan with Ad-Aware SE Personal V1.05. If that doesn't resolve the problem, I would check to see where copies of the runtime DLLs live, and what versions they are. Old versions may need to be renamed or deleted to keep them from being found and loaded.

Crash
I feel your pain. I've been running 8 for quite some time now with no problems. Monday I used it to download all the Christmas video from my camera with no issues. I go to load it on Tuesday and the main screen comes up as well as the lady with the camcorder, next I get "Ulead VideoStudio has encounter a problem and needs to close" If I look at the details of the error (no sense in sending the error report they never get back to you) the AppName is vstudio.exe and the ModName is unknown. I have reinstalled several times and made sure all the patches were applied. Ran AdAware and Spybot, no problems found. The odd thing is version 7 still runs fine. At this point I'm not sure how to proceed, I upgraded from 7 because of burning and rendering issues, now 8 just stops working for no apparent reason

Try the following medicine.
Completely Uninstall Video Studio as follows:
Save your Video Studio library by copying all .DAT files starting with “VS_” that are located in
C:\Documents and Settings\<specific user name>\Application Data\Ulead Systems\Ulead Video Studio\8.0 to another directory.
For XP, manually delete the following directories:
(1) C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Ulead Systems\Ulead Video Studio\8.0
(2) C:\Documents and Settings\<Your specific users>\Application Data\Ulead Systems\Ulead Video Studio\8.0
(3) C:\Program Files\Common Files\Ulead Systems
(4) Uninstall Video Studio 8
(5) After reinstalling Video Studio and all of its updates and patches, copy your Library files back into C:\Documents and Settings\<specific user name>\Application Data\Ulead Systems\Ulead Video Studio\8.0
You may be able to prevent a recurrence of this problem by disabling Write Caching on your hard disk. (Control Panel/System/Device manager/<Your Disk>/Properties/Policies)
I have a strong suspicion that having Write Caching enabled contributes to coherence problems (among the multitude of .ini and .dat files) when Video Studio crashes. This leads to chronic crashes or other weird behavior.
