Writing back to camera

Post by erdna »

I noticed in the "share" mode there is only "HDV recording" and "DV recording" for export to the camcorder. Would there be any chance in VS11 or MF6 to get AVCHD video back to an AVCHD HDD camcorder (Sony SR11). Canon bundles its HG10 (also HDD camcorder) with MF6 and there is some info that write back would be possible See http://www.corel.com/akdlm/6763/downloa ... _Corel.pdf on page 8. Could this be a tuned MF6 version or does MF6 write back to HDD (AVCHD) camcorders by default?

Why would you want to write it back to camera? AVCHD is stored on memory cards or disks. Wih the option Create Disk under Sharing you can create an AVCHD file. And that is basically all you need. You can copy the generated file to your desired location.

I had the same problem

When I got my new Sony SR-7 (it is the same as yours but less HD capacity) I wanted to do the same thing as you because I had no Blu-ray player to play my edited AVCHD files that were edited. Let me tell you that it is impossible to write the edited file back to the camera. You can dump the file on the HD in the camera, but the camera will not recognize it. I wanted a Blu-ray player so I got the Sony PS3 which can read AVC files either on disc or on a USB storage device.

I know you want to write it back to the camera and use the Sony HDMI cable from camera to HDTV to watch your edited video.

The Sony software that comes with the camera will let you do limited editing of a file and write the single file back to the camera, but that¡¦s all you can do.

Tony

Thanks tony, that's exactly what I wanted to do. I also wanted to use my camcorder as a compact AVCHD player for VS11 edited footage in places where an HD ready or fullHD TV or projector is available. I did some editing and write back using Sony's PMB, but I noticed that all the scenes which were trimmed, froze for a fraction of a second before the next scene started. That's a pitty, otherwise I could have lived with the the limited editing and PMB write back. Did you also experience the short freezes between trimed scenes when using PMB write back?

erdna,
The HG10 comes with MF5.6 Special Edition, according to the users manual for the MF5.6se program you can write back to the HG10.

As far as I can tell MF6 does not have this capability to write back to these cams. Probably because there are so many different model avchd cams.

You didn't mention how you were creating and exporting the avchd video from VS. If you have problems I the last stage before saving the video hit the "Options". Icon and un-check the "Use SmartRender".
Sometimes smartrender will not work depending on how you editing the video.

I disable smart-render when exporting avchd video and it looks good, so VS does a nice job of resampling. But under Preferences (F6 Hotkey) make sure to set the "Re-Sampling quality" to "BEST".

Resampling is in fact not an issue in my workflow( although I un-check smart render). I get my Footage from my camcorder using Sony's PMB into my PC. Then I open the m2ts files in VS11, edit, and create a video file using mpeg optimizer and with Smart rend er un-checked in the final Options. Then I create a disc with exactly the same bitrate (16mbs) as in my original files. The disk is OK and plays perfectly in PowerDVD on my PC
