How to make a Double Layer DVD?

Post by papcom »

I have 2 hours videomaterial and I want to make a DVD DL in DVDWS2 with High Quality. How can I do this. I did not find any button or adjustment where I can switch to DVD DL. My DVD Burner is of course capable to burn DL Discs and it's recognized by DVDWS.

You have no adjustment to make. When the writer is loaded with a DL blank, it should tell you that it has 8 Gb free, instead of 4.3 for SL. The transition between layers is automatic.

Notr that I've had little success in DL video DVDs, although data DVDs go just fine. They write OK but I've always had problems playing the blighters.

thanks for Your answer. I have the indication for 8Gb when a DL Disk is inserted... but my Project always shows 4.2 Gb altghough the DVD compliant rendered MPEG Files are already 6.5Gb.

When I finish the project to a folder, then I have the correct amount of data in order I can burn it with my NERO 8!

Where exactely did You have problems with DL Video Discs? I know that the Layer Split is very important and should not be let done automatically. In the DLT Menue there is a possibility to adjust the Layer Split Point but I guess thats only when You work with DLT Tapes for factory mastering!

My problems were either
a) the DVDs didn't play or
b) they played only the first layer
and this on 2 very modern DVD players of different makes and 2 computer players.

I guess that the buring engine of DVDWS is outdated. It's a pitty because DVDWS was a fairly good software and I can't see anthing around for that price... Perhaps Roxio DVD IT PRO odr PRO HD could do the Job.
