Hi

I am new to VS. Bought it a few days ago because I got fed up with Pinnacle's updatestrategy.
I installed it, got all the updates (11.5 and patch).
I have 2 camera's, a Sony DCR-TRV30E DV cam and a Panasonic HDC-SD1 cam. I can capture ok with the Panasonic cam (AVCHD) but if I hook up the Sony and try to capture there is no cam shown and the Select option is greyed out. Both in Capture Video and DV Quick Scan.
In Extra -> Select Device Control under MS 1394 Device, under Options it says Sony.
Capturing from DV in other programs works well.

Any suggestions?

Have you tried turning your DV cam on then launching VS? The obverse of that would be to launch VS and then turn on your DV Cam. Sometimes it gets a bit stubborn and just re-trying a few times it will see your Cam...

VS 11+ does allow for DV transfer via firewire, as I still use my ol' Sony DCR-TRV120. If for some reason that we can not get you to transferring video with VS11 you might be interested in using the free capture utility called WinDV. It works with Firewire only, and captures DV. Several of us use it over VS or MSP capture.

Thank you for answering Ron, yes, I tried all sequences many times, even a new install of VS. All other capture programs work well with the Sony, using Firewire. Only VS won't see the cam.

If you can capture with other software the easy answer is to do so.
You can then use VideoStudio to edit. I do my capturing with MediaStudio
even if I am going to edit with VideoStudio.

Yes, I have a workaround, but I would prefer to see that everything works. Plus a function that doesn't work usually means something else doesn't work also. I hate to leave a lot of programs on my PC which I don't really use.

I agree with Steve. You will find many on this forum use capture software other than VS. Some do it because of your situation, others because they prefer the features of the other program.

No sense knocking yourself out trying to find what is wrong. If you can get your clips into your pc, VS otherwise works correctly, and you can create your "masterpiece", that is the bottom line.
