Welcome to the forums,

Select File>New Image, then in the Data Type click the icon having the 3-colors (RGB=Red, Green, Blue).

Which version of PI? Did your image start out as color? Where did it come from? What are its properties?

I reckon I found the culprit. It was a census I had downloaded with Firefox. It had become corrupted as I discovered I could access the colour when I tried with a photo. I put a red X on the people concerned ( doing my family tree as you gathered.LOL) I downloaded it again with IE and no problems. I do so love my Photo Impact, old it may be ( version 7) so was most put out. Thanks for your interest.
