Is there a link to the bare basics of making a plain dvd with no frills added.

Or could someone explain the simplest method of creating a dvd which can be played back on a dvd player/playstation or computer.

What are the settings for the best quality dvd's.

There are lots of experienced users on this forum and all have different ways of working creating a dvd so more examples the better.

You see all I want to do is record the happy family memories from my dv camera to a plain dvd. Editing is not that important.

So far the best way I have found is to record straight onto a vhs video as the dv camera is playing which defeats the object.

Any help or links would be most helpful.

My first inclination is to say use the DV-to-DVD Wizard, since editing is not a priority.

But first, it would be helpful if you tell us what kind of camera you have. That will determine how the video is captured. Since that is the first step we'll start there.

Hi, I am using a DV Panasonic NV-GS60 and uploading to my computer via a firewire.

I have videostudio 11 plus.

You are capturing via firewire, that is good. I still think you should be going the DV-DVD Wizard route. However, I have never used that so I won't be much good in telling you how to do it. Should be fairly simple though, as it is designed for beginners. Do you have the manual? If not you can view/download it HERE.

I would use the Video Editor, but that¡¦s cos I don¡¦t use the wizard either.

As you have a DV-Type Camcorder, connected via firewire, the best capture option is to DV format. This produces a file at 13 Gb per hour.

If your doing little editing then capturing to DVD format may be suitable.

Trevor, the reason I said the wizard is because he wants "simplest method of creating a dvd" and "editing is not that important". I believe Corel had this type of user in mind when they developed the wizards.

As he gets more experienced he may venture into the Editor, never to return (to the wizards) .

I understand that, but still feel the ¡¥editor¡¦ is the way to go.
After all that¡¦s where you end up after the ¡¥wizard¡¦ has done its bit.

But you are right, the wizard will give you a feel as to how the timelines are used.
Music, overlay clips and titles are created by the wizard. Not a bad example.

Oh, ok. I didn't realize that you end up in the editor. As I said, I have never used it.

I have filled in my specs on my profile.

I am now using the DV-to-DVD Wizard and am capturing in DV AVI.

Scene detection I am using is maximum as I want the whole tape.

1:02:35 of footage.

Selected burn speed as 1X.

Saying it needs 17.7 GB of space YIKES!

Started to burn as high quality and will let you know how it goes.

Well the first disk failed at about 50 minutes into the dv tape so trying again at 2X.

Burnt great and very good picture.


But

I have this really annoying music in the background which is really cheesy!

How do you turn the silly music off.

Well, that's something the Wizard thought you needed. But like I said, I have never used the wiz so I can't help. Sorry.

Some stupid wizard!

I am wanting to capture and burn my dv footage as a dvd so I can later return to them and capture parts of a dvd to then edit in the full studio at a later date.

I just want to make a back up of the dv tape as a plain dvd.

Just let the program and computer do the work.

I will always keep the dv tapes but it is easier looking for footage on a dvd rather than the original tape.

I must say we never laughed so much as the provided music really didn't suit our sons 7th birthday but we soon stopped laughing and the music is BLOODY ANNOYING.

The quality of the dvd was excellent and I don't know what the same settings are in the main VS11.

Can't find any answers in the help file or on this forum.

Download and RTFM would be a good start.
