AC3 Sound Support

Post by Joseph Gotsens »

Does VS 9.0 support mpg with AC3 sound? I know VS 8.0 had an AC3 Plug-in. Does VS 9.0 have an AC3 Plug-in, as I could find no reference to it on the Ulead web site? It would be nice, if that was built in!

That does'nt really answer his question since it does not mention it there...I would like to know as well.

I imported files into VS9 with AC3 and they play but I can't hear any audio.
Is there a patch or a plug-in that can help?

If not I may have to go with the much more expensive Media Studio Pro which I believe has support for this.

***edit...I found other posts on this. It is supported in the full version but not the demo version.

Used an AC3 clip and it worked perfectly.

The non-SE versions of UVS 9 include AC-3 decoding/encoding support.

However, that doesn't mean that your favorite video player such as Windows Media Player can deal with AC-3 audio. As a result, you may not hear any audio when you render your file and try to play it.

The workaround is to install the free AC-3 DirectShow Filter, or to use a DVD player such as versions of PowerDVD or WinDVD with AC-3 support.

Torsten -- though the question is now irrelevant to me (as I have finally installed VS 9), it may still be helpful to explain how and where to install the free filter. I confess that I had downloaded it when I was using VS 8, but never got it to work... VS 8 just didn't seem to 'see' it, and would not import Dolby sound. I realise it was only to be used for import, and that it could not re-encode to AC-3. (The VS9 AC-3 plug-in on the other hand works just fine!!)
