Is it possible to add further tracks to the timeline? I nearly always use music and commentary in my films but sometimes would like to add background sounds such as running water or traffic or even spot effects in place of the original sound which sometimes is unusable as people are talking in the background etc.

At present, there is nowhere to put this sound unless I am missing something obvious. I am using the latest version of VideoStudio.

Are you using one of the wizards or the editor? If you are using the editor it sounds like you are in Storyboard View. Above the timeline are several icons. I believe the second from the left turns on Timeline View (mouse over them for descriptions). That will give you separate tracks for video, audio, titles, etc.

But if you are talking about audio tracks only, then I am afraid there are only two. For video tracks, with the PLUS version of VS10 and 11, you get the main track and 6 overlay tracks, plus the title track.

Many thanks for your replies. It would appear from Ken's answer that only 2 audio tracks are available which was what I meant by my original question rather than what view I was in as I switch from one to the other as I am working anyway.

There are a couple of things you can try to "add" more audio tracks to your project.

You could use a separate program to mix your audio together, then import it into VS. That could be a problem, though, if timing is a critical issue.

The other thing you can try is to use your overlay tracks as audio tracks. Start a new project and just add the audio you want to use. Now render that out to and AVI file. Now insert that AVI into your project on one of the overlay tracks, keeping it buried so the (black) video doesn't show, but the audio can be heard.

Thanks, Jeff. As timing is critical in most of my projects (a lot of cutting on the beat) your first suggestion wouldn't work in my case but I'll certainly give your second suggestion a whirl. Thank you, again.
