Rendering speed

It is generally accepted that a fast processor (Quad..) and sufficient amount of RAM is needed for fast rendering. Did somebody also compare how the bus speed/memory performance, and the disc access/speed gets into the game?

I don't know about any specific tests, but rendering is "CPU intensive". It requires lots of calculations. So, I think the most important thing (the bottleneck) is CPU speed.

Memory speed might be important too, since when you render (to MPEG) you are dealing with GOPs (Group Of Pictures) which means you are dealing with several video frames at a time, which means lots of data moving between the CPU and memory.

Somebody reported buying solid-state hard drive and he/she was very dissapointed that it didn't improve rendering.
