I'm struggling to capture from a Sony SR11 via USB.
When trying to capture, I get a message that no video capture driver is installed. My camera says it is connected. I am able to import to Picture Motion Browser.
When trying to insert video, I am unable to open .m2ts files.
How are the new Sony AVCHD cameras compatible with VS11?

If you are talking about plain, vanilla version VS11, and not even VS11+, then no AVCHD camera is compatible with it. VS11+ is partially compatible, but it is really VS11.5+ which should work, as long as you have a powerful enough computer.
AVCHD is the most demanding video format, and you really need a pretty good computer even to play AVCHD (Core 2 Duo or Quad) smoothly. With a computer that is at least an 'old' Intel P4 3.0 GHz with hyper-threading and above or the older dual core processors, you can at least edit AVCHD using Smart Proxy in VS11.5+, but you will still probably not be able to play the resulting AVCHD, if you render into that, smoothly.
So we need to know about your computer specifications (fill in the Profile button). And also click on the the ? symbol in the top right of the VS screen, select About Video Studio and tell us the version number. If it's not 11.5.0157.2 PLUS, then you will not be able to process AVCHD properly even if you have a good computer.
