VS 11 crashes when importing from dvd rom

Hi, I am new to this forum and in need of help please, I have recently bought a new DVD recorder panasonic EZ27 connected to my VHS recorder to record my VHS tapes, when the dvd is recorded and finalised (to be played in all DVD players) is working normally but when I try to import this DVD into the VS11 it crashes at 61% every time, however I had a philips dvd recorder before and never had the problem, also took my VHS tape to my friends and used his DVD recorder and no problems.

I am using Windows XP Pro. no changes except the DVD recorder!

I hope that someone can explain why this is happening and how to cure it? Thank you for this excellent forum.

I have done everything, unistall vs11 and reinstall it, change the DVD file as suggested by someone, uninstalled all ulead programs I had and delete all their relative files,used the dvdfix program, but still no joy the VS11 program crashes at 61%.

It seems this is a common problem and Ulead should look into it for a fix, if it works with other recorders it should work with this one as well.

I am sure it is a small problem but i just can't put my finger on it, I have few project which should have been done by now but i just can't upload the files into the program, I am so furstrated .

I hope that someone would have a brainwave and enlighten me.

Two suggestions.

Did you try copying the DVD to your hard drive first, then trying to import from your HD?

Is this the only DVD you have tried and had problems with? Since it always stops at 61% maybe you have a corrupt file at that spot, or the DVD is bad. Try recording something else on another DVD and see if that works.

Thank you very much Black Lab, for your suggestions, and yes to both your questions,I copied the contents of the DVD to my hard drive and tried to import but it says file missmatch, and I burned more than 1 DvD and of different makes and still the same result stops at %61.

However, I managed to get it to work, I have since bought a new PC and it did the trick.

I am now very busy editing my vhs videos.

The next time my program crashes, I'll tell my wife that I must buy a new PC. That's the only way to fix the program...

Thats what I told the wife, if you want your VHS tapes on DVD we have to buy a new PC, and it worked

Had the same problem with VS11+ WinXPpro: importing a DVD would hang at 61% completion and force me to reboot

checked my DirectX version (RUN | dxdiag ) and it showed version 9C -- the current version. After other tries, I downloaded "the latest current version" from Microsoft's site. What I got was: DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904).

That did it, import DVD works fine, problem fixed, $0.00 spent!

Apparently, VS11+ won't work on some earlier subversions of DirectX 9.0c and any install or update that brings in a new enough version of DirectX fixes the DVD import error.

I have the same problem, only it hangs at 62%. I too have a Panasonic DVD recorder. I did upload the latest DirectX files and have the 4.09.0000.09.04 version and it still hangs up. I've tried a couple of different discs and it is very frustrating.

I'm running a Dell Vostro with Intel Core 2 Proc E6550 (2.33 GHz, 4MB L2, XP home, Teac DVD+/-RW Burner and I bought it in Jan. '08 - it's too soon to get another!

Any other suggestions?

Whilst it might seem that the DVD recorder is to blame, it is possible that the fault might lie in the DVD Burner on your computer. These items of hardware contain built in software so that the DVD burner can communicate with the computer. This software has a special name - firmware.

In the natural evolution of technology new DVD discs are manufactured and so existing DVD burners might not have been programmed to read/write them correctly - hence your problem of hitting the dreaded 61% spot.
Got to your DVD burner manufacturers website and you should find a link or a search box for updated firmware.

It may or may not cure the problem but will not make things worse.

I did update my firmware and it still hangs in the same spot. Do you think I need to uninstall and re-install VS?

I have gone back to my old pc just to try and sort out the problem, becuase it has been bugging me for sometime.
I have managed to get it to work, I replaced the disks, I was using DVD +R now changed to DVD -R and made sure that the recording speed on the DVD recorder is set to SP, after that it worked first time, and now I have done it few times without fail, I thought this might help others who have the same problem.

By the way the PC was up for a change anyway, it was P4 2.8, now it is quad 2 core 2.4, just to catch up with technology.
