The Wizard and reediting

Post by juliart08 »

As soon as I think I got it under control, VS throws me another curve. I am reediting the Movie wizard. I have 6 overlay tracks that I don't need and cannot get rid of them. Is this normal? Can I use the "Attributes"with the Wizard? Can't find them. Only thing I have is "Edit" and "Animation" I want Titles to fade in & out . Can't find the Fade control either. Maybe my VS 11.5 is messed up. I like using the Wizard to start a project fast and then go in and change a lot to my way of editing. Is this a good idea?

Also when I start it up, I get that darn annoying commercial to upgrade. I already have 11.5. How do I stop this?
It seems I take 1 step forward and 3 steps back.

Most of the things that have been answered by all of you has given me a lot of help and some of my editing is pretty good but I want to have more control over this program but using the manual does nothing but frustrate me and gives me hardly any help.

You guys have got me to about 75% with Video Studio editing. Before I was about 10% with the manual only. I would like to be able to edit like I once did when I was in TV news and Documentaries which I did with A&B rolls.

Thanks for you help and patience

Mike

Hi,
While I am not an expert there are some questions I would like to ask that may help some one else to help you.

1. Are you in "clip" or "timeline" view? ( The menu bar on the left side of "timeline" is where you control overlay tracks.)
2. Did you highlight (double click) the title in "timeline" first? ( It will open for edit in preview window if you do.)
2. Are you sure you want to "fade" a title as opposed to "fade choices" in the animation menu for titles? ( To me it seems that VS treats vids and titles very differently until rendered.)
3. Did you check your version in "help"..."about VS" to make sure your upgrade pack did indeed bring you up to 11.5?

I have been through several versions of VideoStudio and can attest that the learning curve is a little steep but the payback is in the quality. Most of my problems arise from mis-understanding the functions of certain tools or simply overlooking some crucial setting.

As to your method of wizard->manual edit, that is fine. In fact it seems to be a designed feature. I do this myself because I typicaly use hundreds of clips to record vacation videos which all need a transition. It saves a lot of time!

I'm sorry I can't be more helpful.
