Fast Forward - Return to Earlier Chapter

I am a fairly inexperienced user, so apologize if my question is inarticulate. I have not been able to find an earlier post on point.

I recently switched to 11.5 from v.8. My problem concerns a DVD I am trying to burn. When I attempt to fast forward through the completed DVD, it always returns first to a particular video clip (perhaps one third of the way through the project) and starts over from there (it will go as far as I want in fast forward mode from that point, but if I stop and play, and then hit fast forward again, I regress to the earlier point). I am using a simple menu. I notice, incidentally, that on the DVD player itself, as the DVD progresses in normal time, the chapter and time counter on the DVD moves normally through chapters 1 through 5, but then all future sections of the DVD start are show as chapter 6 (with the time starting over as the DVD enters each new section). In other words, it seems like the DVD player detects a bunch of different chapters 6.
