install on different PC - is it possible to move windvd9 ?
1. can windvd9 be removed from the PC where it is currently installed, & then installed on a different PC - or will the activation fail ?
2. If I try it & it does fail on 2nd PC, will I still be able to reinstall it back onto the original PC , or will that then fail also, leaving me with nothing ?

According to the license 1.3(i) you may install WinDVD on a second computer, provided it is not loaded into RAM at the same time as you are using WinDVD on your primary computer except if you live in China.
You can activate 5 times before having to call CS to reset it, that's what I was told by UK CS. Backup your activation codes then you won't have to use up 5 activations.
You can always run it as trial s/w on your second PC, and activate when you are happy.

I have installed it several times on my computers, some are multi boot so it gets installed more than once on the same machine.
I do this to assist with forum related matters so that I have a copy on XP SP2, XPsp3, Vista Home Premium. I have even had to wipe a computer clean and re-install it on 3 partitions - each containing one of the above.
I have no problems entering the serial number and using the software.

reinstall on new hard drive
OK - well my C drive died yesterday so I now have a new vista install, on a new HD, with no DVd software!sjj1805 wrote:I have installed it several times on my computers, some are multi boot so it gets installed more than once on the same machine.

I should have on paper somewhere my windvd9 previous activation code & key. so do I now re-download winDVD9 trial, & try to re-use that.
or do I also have to remember credit card number & email address used for original purchase, as per an original activation ?

OK - read that. I'm not understaning your earier thread statement "Backup your activation codes then you won't have to use up 5 activations" -sjj1805 wrote:Please view:

Are there 2 types of activation ? - the one you first use when you buy the program, plus a different type of activation which uses "backed up activation codes ? " and thus does not count towards your limit of 5 activations. How do you tell the program that you want to activate it via the 2nd option ?
I have 2 x 20 digit codes written down - one called purchased key & one called activation code. will they reactivate a new install to replace my lost one, and do I use them with a trial download or must I find a saved, full download somehow.
this program has the most confusing activation process I've ever seen!
sorry you are right, it's in an earlier post in this thread, but you were not the author. Is that post misleading & confusing me then, & really there is only the one activation process , & no way to "re-use" activations"sjj1805 wrote:I did not say that.cybmole wrote:.........

update: I found an activation guide.pdf on corel site, I think I see how it works now
I have also verified via the corel site, that the trial version is in fact the full, but not activated , program, so I can download that latest build tather than search for a copy of the original software & then have to think about updates & patches.
so it seems I just re-download software, put in saved codes & hope everything works. I understand that the codes are hardware specific but hopefully the fact that dell have swapped out a motherboard & hard drive will not prevent re-activation

Hi Cybmole,
I'm sure you know this.
The purchase key is needed to install Windvd, giving you a limited trial. The activation code (generated the first time you ran WinDVD9) to give the full features of the program paid for.
CS informed me if you regenerate the activation code more then 5 times then you would have to call them to get the count reset. Hence backup you activation code.
I've installed WinDVD9+BR and activated in Vista X64 & X86, as well as XP Pro 64bit numerous times now with no issues (except the initial install problems with XP64bit).

activation
thanks - as I now understand it, the activation code is somehow generated for your PC ( from the install key ?) & is good only for that specific PC. so if you ininstall & reinstall on that same PC you can re-use the saved activation code.oddius2008 wrote:Hi Cybmole,

I dont yet know what happens when you replace the C drive & reinstall vista i.e. whether the old activation code still works with a new system registry, or whether a new isntall key has to be generated - I guess I'll find out whren I get around to doing the reinstall, but right now I'm still working though all the vista upgrades & settings etc to get my PC back to how it used to be.
