Importing DVD-VR error

Post by Dragan »

Using Ulead DVD MovieFactory 4.
Importing DVD-VR recorded on a Sony recorder. 4 episodes of a show with ads removed using Sony recorder. Comes up with Programs 0, 1, 2 and 3 each with 4 cells. Select all and import starts. It gets to 99% on Cell 0 of Program 0 and I get an error "Invalid parameter".
Anyone else get this error or know the cause.

Hi,
That can happen using the -VR format from a recorder.
To work around it create a Playlist on the recorder (read manual).
Then import the playlist when importing into MF.
Creating a playlist with the Sony recorder is awkward but after you
do it and import it MF will display "playlist 1" or playlist
You can make multiple playlists.

If you already cut the mpg2 files on the dvd then they are 4 separate
mpg2 files on the dvd because you edited the video.

If you already could import 3 of the videos then you can create just
1 playlist for the 4th video and just import that.
If you have a very large movie about 4gigs and want to import the
whole movie create a playlist and select "capture all" on the recorder.
If you make "Scenes" in the playlist they will be imported separately
depending on what version of MF your using.

This is only true for the -VR mode.

The latest version of Nero 6 can import also (with the updates).

The whole idea with a playlist is if you recorded a full home video
and only want to import say a 10minute video of an event then you
create a playlist of only that 10 minute period and import that 10 minute
period as an mpeg2 file. The -VR format is nice rather than having to
cut and edit that on a computer.

Note: After you import the clips and they are on the harddrive you should
delete the thumbnails from the timeline and re-import them in
again. Sometimes MF doesn't mark them as dvd compliant even though
they are. Re-importing them fixes that problem otherwise MF will
re-render them again which isn't necessary (unless you edit them).

Hope this helps,

MD
