V S fails to open

Post by Flossi »

When I open my computer a message "X Runtime error "
" program...rogram Files/UleadSystems/UleadVideoStudio11/uvPL.ex
abnormal program termination" appears I < OK and can proceed to use my computer, except when I try to use VS the same message appears & the VS page closes. As usual your expertise would be much apreciated.
regards flossi.

Since you're using Vista it might be Data Execution Prevention

To turn off Data Execution Prevention for an application in Vista please use the following procedure:

1. Open System by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel, clicking System and Maintenance, and then clicking System.

2. Click Advanced System Settings. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

3. Under Performance, click Settings.

4. Click the Data Execution Prevention tab, and then click Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select.

5. Select the check box next to the application to turn off DEP, and then click OK.

6. If the application is not in the list, click Add. Browse to the Program Files folder, find uvPL.exe (it will have an .exe file extension), and then click Open.

I would have assumed it would be "vstudio.exe" instead.

Thank you phd for your prompt reply. On reaching the Perfomance Options Box, the check box "Turn on essential Windows programs and services only " is already ticked , but the "Add " box is pale. If I > the box "Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select " then the Add box turns blue and when I > the "Open " box is produced.
Unfortunatly when I browse the Executable Files I cannot find "uvPL.exe
or "vstudio.exe Where do go from here ? Thanking you in anticipation

You need to navigate to the location of the files:
C:\Program Files\Ulead Systems\Ulead VideoStudio 11

Thank you again phd.Iam still not there ! Am I following your instructions correctly?
Having reached the " Performance Options" page (1) & selected "Turn on DEP for all progams & services except those I select " (2 )the window is empty (3) so I > Add (4) and brouse "look In (5) & find Program Files (6)
I select Ulead Systems (7 ) > Open (8) In "Open Page" I highlight
Ulead Video Studio 11 (9) > "Open" (10) & brouse to find uvPL.exe (11)
I > Open (12) & a ticked box appears in the window of the "Perfomance
Option Page (13) I > Apply (14) > OK (15) "System Properties " reappear.
I close down restart but find the "error" is alive and well !!
I went through the process again ommitting stage 14 but this made no differnce. Thank you in anticipation for your vital support . flossi

Try adding vstudio.exe also.

If that doesn't do it I'm out of ideas.

Perhaps someone more knowledgeable can chime in.

See if you can just locate the file vstudio.exe starting by clicking the My Computer icon found on your desktop. The complete path in Vista would be: C:\Program Files\Ulead Systems\Ulead VideoStudio 11\vstudio.exe.

In the DEP browse window, you should use the above path. When you open the Ulead VideoStudio 11 folder, you should only see Executable file types. The reason for that is look at the bottom of that navigation window the Files of Type is set to Executable files. You should also be able to see other folders. If not then are you using an Administrative account, where you would have the permissions to make changes to the system? With a standard account this would not be allowed.

Looking at your first post above, I find it strange that you get an error just "opening up" or starting (?) your computer. Do you have VS set to run on start-up? VS should not run until you manually launch it. You can check this in Windows Defender, (Start>Settings>Control Panel>Security>Windows Defender>Tools menu>Software Explorer. In the Software Explorer the Category drop-down menu should read Start up Programs.

If VideoStudio is listed there select Remove..

You might also try disabling Windows Defender to see if it will resolve this issue with VS. This is done in the Options of Windows Defender, and is located at the very bottom.

Thank you Vidoman for your interest. I do not have "my Computer " 0n
my Desktop or in " All Programs" .I have Disabled Windows Defender but
no luck. The X Runtime error appears directly after "welcome " I > OK it disappears except for ULVS11. The title of this error reads "Microsoft Visual C + + Runtime Library " In Software Explorer the Category reads "Start Up Programs "
Back to my last attempt --- On reaching the Perfomance Options Window , with DE tab open the window below is empty, I > Add--The Open Page appears , with Ulead Video Studio 11 in the "Look In" drop down menu and " Excutable Files in the Files of Type . The "File Name "
window is empty.-------- I brouse "Look In " to find Progam Files then brouse to find Ulead Systems ( have I gone round in circles ? )----File
Name is Blank so I brouse and select C\ProgramFiles\UleadSystems\
Ulead Video Studio 11\ vstudio.exe I > Open and a Ticked Box Ulead
Video Studio appears in the window of Perfomance Options I > OK.
I shut the Computer down --restart but still the error appears.!! I am at my wits end ! Thanking you in anticipation flossi.

Since you're getting this error when you first start your computer, there is something wrong with your system. I would suggest having a look at MS Vista Solution Center.
