Seems DVD MovieFactory 7 is now available, at least in Australia. Going to try and buy the upgrade in a moment - can't understand why the other websites don't have it available yet.

Well I decided against immediately buying the upgrade to MF7pro mainly because the cost of the upgrade is actually quite a lot more than MF6plus was. So I decided to download the trial and frankly I'm glad I did this.
I have to say there are some incremental improvements which I've noticed, but Corel are asking a lot of money for the (little) added functionality. Unless you are authoring Blu-ray discs then I can't see any real upgrade from 6 to 7 and certainly not for ¢G55 (remebering that Blu Ray authoring was possible with MF6Plus).
So here are fratures I've noticed that have improved/been added
1. Multi-core processors are finally supported with MPEG2 encoding - this includes AMD quad/dual core processors (yet Corel continue to only market the encoder as Intel optimised, which I find rather ignorant). My Phenom quad core runs maxed out encoding now, and 30 min of MPEG2 video took about 7 min to encode to a different bit rate MPEG2. Menu encoding also makes use of all 4 cores, which also greatly speeds things up
2. AVREC is new output format, which I haven't come across, but appears to be similar idea to AVCHD, ie H.264 codec for authoring on normal DVDs for playback on blu-ray players - I haven't explored whether motion menus are possible and high bit rates (neither of which are with AVCHD currently)
3. In the menu creation section, you can preview the menus at any time by selecting the preview button.
4. There is what is called a 'notes' menu that can be created, which basically is additinal menu page that does not link to any part of the video on the disc, and can hold text
5. You can customise menus by adding 'decoration', including video, pictures etc
6. Blu-ray menus now offer some interactivity. Although I haven't actually authored a disc, I saw the option to creat an interactive menu, which appears at any time you want whilst the video is playing - i.e. it is an overlay on the actual footage. Sounds great and a sign of things to come with Blu-Ray, not much use to me at the moment.
7. Subjectively, the software felt more responsive than MF6plus
Thats about it when it comes to major differences I've noticed. The multi-core support is big plus for me, but not for an additional ¢G55.
Hopefully, VS12, will offer the same technical improvements? and I'll wait until Corel decide to stop ripping the loyal users and reduce the upgrade price

Here are some specs..
Sounds similar to using a dvd recorder in -VR mode.

24p for BDMV?
Does the new version support 24p clip import and authoring without reencoding?

Sorry but there is no play list feature.
Haven't had chance to check the 24 fps query yet.
I don't have any release date details yet but hopefully it will be fairly soon.

There are quite a few new menu templates.neonbob wrote:I'm pretty satisfied with MF6. My only gripe is that there aren't enough menu templates and the ones that are there aren't too flexible. Has there been a large improvement in this area?

Re: DVD Moviefactory 7 Standard and Pro available on Aus Web
DVD MovieFactory 7 is also available now on the Corel New Zealand site (http://www.corel.com/servlet/Satellite/ ... bview=tab0), but an upgrade is only available from the Pro version, for the same price ($NZ119) as the full Standard version.Kaledi wrote:Seems DVD MovieFactory 7 is now available, at least in Australia. ...
I wonder if this is a deliberate upsell policy?

Upgrade to DVD MF7 Standard?
Thanks, Steve. Would you expect Corel to come through eventually with an upgrade to DVD MF7 Standard - or is this their normal practice, to upgrade/upsell users to the Pro version?
24p
I contacted corel and they assured me that the new version supports 24p mpeg2 files.... however when I downloaded the trial.. I get only upper of lower field order and no progressive frame... also the frame rate is fixed to 29.9 and is grayed out (can't be changed)
Another problem with the trial is that the encoding is fixed to variable bit rate and is grayed out so you can't choose constant bit rate the only thing you can do is to change the maximum bitrate....
Not sure those problems are due to the fact that it's a trial version and is for australia only (PAL country) or not.....
Did someone with the full version assess those problems???

Confusing, in MF6+ even now you can export frame based.
But in MF7 goto "Export -> Customize -> Options -> select "MPEG2", from there you have all the mpeg2 frame sizes & quite a few frame rates.
Most of my templates are VBR, when I goto create a new template the new ones are hardcoded CBR (constant bit rate).
So I guess on my end for variable bit rate I have to modify one of the templates.
Still have to play with this some more.
I wonder if when making a BDMV whether the program considers your 24P as compliant or not, so it doesn't get re-encoded.
You may have to check ON the "X-Disc" box under "Project Settings"
