i've been playing around overlaying tracks, specifically this tutorial on blurring faces http://www.veoh.com/videos/v752665ZqHstZTh that Steve posted. I get all the way through but I must be missing something in combining the tracks. I dont see a working preview of my tracks overlayed and cant create the final video with both combined either? Sure its just stoopidity on my part...thanks

HI

Two identical video clips. One in the top track one in the overlay.
The two clips should be in line, immediately above each other.
Drag the overlay clip to the far left of the timeline.
Play the clips in project playback, do you see both clips, one smaller than the other.

From now on all the editing is applied to the ¡¥overlay clip¡¦

Now----Resize the overlay track to original size.
The top track is hidden by the overlay track

Use mosaic filter on overlay clip---Customise¡X
Add crop filter¡Xcustomise filter to select face only
Add further key frames and resize to follow the Action

When complete select Mask & Chroma Key¡Xchoose Black at 50% to remove background.

Hi Trevor,

Yea, I got all that part...what would be the next step in creating the video file to mpg? Share, then Video file?? That doesn't seem to be working so i'm thinking i missed something. When I try to create the video file, it only plays the original track, the overlay is missing.

Hi

Make sure you have applied both filters ¡¥mosaic and cropping¡¦.

Uncheck the ¡¥Replace last filter¡¦ option. Both should show in the Filter Panel¡XAttributes tab.

Customise the mosaic¡Xset the Width and height to 30 ish for start and end key frames.

Does it play ok in the preview window.
Do you see the effect at the end of play.

If ok

Now share create video file.

Hey Trev, ok...when i make some tweaks, like changing the attribute on the mosaic filter, when i preview, its not merging together, so its looks like 2 different files. I can click each timeline, the top one plays the video normally, the other is the mosaic overlay with cropping, but it only shows the cropping etc, its not overlaying to the main track?? when i Create, then video file, its does the same thing...ugh! What am I missing??? btw, thanks for all your help

Hi

Not sure I understand your problem????????

Check the attributes tab that both filters are listed in the panel below, ¡¥replace last filter¡¦
Make sure this option is unchecked.

Customise the mosaic to 50 x 50

Apply the crop filter, resize and position

Use the Chroma Key effect to remove the black background.

Play back in Project playback mode

Trev, ok, I figured out my problem, I cant go below 20 on the "color similarity for mask" on the mosaic filter. It jumps to a dark brown background on anything below that. Now I have encountered another issue, because the face is moving in my video, I created "marks" to adjust the rectangular box throughout the video, but some blocks are sporatically transparent, including the eyes on preview. I can still see the outline of the rectangle filter box which is strange, any idea why this is happening and how to fix?, otherwise im all good I think...thanks

Hi

It may be the Chroma Key removing pixels in your video.
The Chroma Key removes specific pixel colours. (similarity)

When you apply the Crop tool choose a Fill colour different to any in your video, (if possible). A Green is generally used as a Chroma backdrop, but try different colours.

When you apply the Chrome Key use the colour dropper to select the background colour.

Why does the area i'm blurring grow in size as the clip plays? On the cropping filter I chose stationary...any ideas? Thanks!!!

Check each key frame attributes...if it's growing in size then then the last key frame has a different attribute to the one before it.

Untick Stationary! You are "Following the action" so it is on the move.
The reason it grows in size is because of the key frames.
When you add a filter it will have various settings at the start of the clip
(First Key Frame)
It will have various settings at the end of the clip (End Key Frame)

IF both sets of settings are the same (and no other key frames exist) then whatever has been set will remain constant throughout the entire clip.
IF the settings at the first key frame differ from the settings of the last key frame then something noticeable will occur - dependant upon the function of the particular filter applied.

Ok great, im getting the hang of this i think. Now my next question, can the blurring effect be specific to a certain area (such as eyes) and have it follow that same area throughout the clip or do you have click key frames when you want to adjust the area your blurring?
