Aspect ratio in rendered file

Post by jander »

Hello everyone; my first time at this forum.

I'm trying to string together 4 x 110MB mpeg-4 files (4:3) and render a blu-ray file at 16:9. Not having any success. All the switches in VS 11.5.0157.2 Plus are set to 16:9, from the flash screen to "Make a disc" yet the preview plays in 4:3 as does the playback from BD-RE. Inspecting the output file summary in "Make a disc" confirms 16:9 yet for some reason 16:9 never happens in the rendered file. What am I missing?

Second question. I was unable to find web site manual help on blu-ray procedures. Does this exist or is it imminent?

Nice forum. Pleasure to read.

Ok so according to your post your video shows in 4:3. Does the image look pressed from the sides on your tv screen? If so you should force your tv screen to play in 16:9 mode. That's the case with my TV set.

Hi jander

From the timeline select the 4:3 clip then Attributes tab.
Tick the ¡¥distort clip¡¦ radio button

Right click the preview screen
Select Fit to screen
Right click again and select Keep aspect ratio.

Your 4:3 should fit the 16:9 screen

You will loose some detail top and bottom.

See ¡¥16:9 A look at widescreen¡¦ from the link below
Shows what 16:9 should look like using VS.

Many thanks for your prompt replies.

Good advice and I now have a 16:9 rendered file from the 4, mpeg-4s.

Thanks again.
