Does DVD MF 4 eliminate Field Order problems automatically?

Post by DudeBoyz »

I am coming from DVD Movie Factory 2 SE and with analog captures, have had issues with the end result looking bad some times, depending on the source. Someone told me that DVD MF 4 will read in your captured video and automatically adjust the Field Order settings to fit the media type you select for your final project. Is this correct?

For instance, I want to make an NTSC DVD from 4 different analog clips captured from 4 different sources. If I simply load them into DVD MF 4 and then generate chapters, make a menu and burn it to a NTSC DVD, will it make sure all the clips are set properly for that DVD type to avoid any of that odd flickering and combing?

Thanks

I dont' think it does fully automatic stuff.

I did a test with VideoStudio 9 and encoded an AVI in all 3 styles - FrameBased, UpperField and LowerField, brought each into DVD MF 4 and burned 3 individual DVD's, choosing not to convert MPEG compliant files, and did viewing tests.

There was a noticeable difference between each of the 3. FrameBased was the most flickery, Upper was next in line with a moderate but still noticeable flicker and it ended up being LOWER that provided the best quality output DVD, with almost no noticeable flickering.

So, I guess it does not auto-convert field order, at least with single clips. I'm somewhat confused as to how it handles things, so I guess I wll do more tests, perhaps trying to combine all 3 types into one clip and making a DVD to see what happens.

Wish I could find out the specifics of how it works, but tech support is pretty slow in responding, which I guess is understandable given that they have two high-profile new products out at about the same time.

Just wanted to update ya'all in case it might help someone.
