WinDVD 9 missing hdmi audio out
Got a new ATI 4850 card. Connected through my onkyo 805 receiver using hdmi. Using PowerDVD 8 im getting LPCM 5.1/7.1 from blu-rays, and DTS/DD from DVDs.
Now using WinDVD 9 there is no HDMI selection. Tried to set it to 6 speakers but i get no audio. Please help. Need this software working to watch HD-DVDs.
Thx in advance.

WinDVD 9 BD Plus with the latest update: DVD9.0.14.91_63207_Plus_iUpgrade.exe
I can only choose 2-6 speakers (no hdmi or spdif). I do get audio choosing f eample 6 speakers. But windvd then gets LPCM 5.1 wrong. Plays it as stereo. Go figure.... AC3 is correct.
ATI 4850 Catalyst 8.8 (Using Realtek HDMI 2.0 driver).
DirectX Latest
Vista X64 SP1 all updates to date.

FWIW I'm having a very similar issue. I've just downloaded and installed the trial version and am only offered 'headphones' or '2 speakers' as my audio options not HDMI which is my default audio output device.
There's another effect - I run Windows Media Center and the sound, coming through the HDMI port to an amp, is fine. Start WinDVD and MCE sound disappears, close WinDVD and the MCE sound is back again.
Edit: Oh, I forgot to add - this is my first post so "Hi".

I do have the very same problem e.g. although I do see "6 speakers" in Audio options in WinDVD even if I set it to 6 speakers I hear only stereo sound. Talking about Blu-ray playback of the uncompressed 5.1 audio track. Dolby Digital 5.1 on Blu-ray works fine.magnusr wrote:WinDVD 9 BD Plus with the latest update: DVD9.0.14.91_63207_Plus_iUpgrade.exe

I have the latest WinDVD 9 Plus Blu-ray patch installed 9.0.14.119 (67214), ATI Radeon 4850 (Gigabyte GV-R485MC-1GH) with latest Catalyst 9.2, Vista 64-bit Enterprise SP1 with latest automatic updates, latest drivers from Realtek (Realtek Vista Driver 2.17 & ATI HDMI Audio Device 2.13).
I also do have PowerDVD Ultra 7.3 (came with my LG Blu-ray / HD DVD drive) and there it works fine e.g. I can hear 5.1 LPCM sound with no problems at all.
I also tried Windows XP (Pro SP3) and to my surprise in there playback of 5.1 LPCM in WinDVD works fine!
I encountered also another weird problem regarding sound on my system (all of you with similar setup please try if you can) and it's related to playback of DTS 96KHz/24bit audio track -> it does not work. I mean once I switch to this track (mostly to be found on music DVDs) I hear no sound at all and on my receiver's display I see flickering e.g. it apparently tries to handshake with my HTPC however it fails. Normal DTS and Dolby Digital tracks play fine with no problems. I tried to check / uncheck "Enable 96/24 decoding" in settings -> no difference.
Again PowerDVD Ultra 7.3 plays those DTS 96/24 tracks fine (my receiver shows DTS 96/24).
And again in Windows XP WinDVD plays those fine too - that's why I assume these issues relate one to each other.

Hmm so much for the feedback? Feels good indeed
OK so here's the news: today I updated to latest build B14.132 (74098) and to my (positive) surprise DTS 96/24 now plays fine in Vista!!
So being in that pleasant mood I tried Blu-ray playback and to my (negative) surprise it does not wok at all = I mean whatever audio track I select when playing Blu-ray disk I hear nothing AT ALL no matter if I select PCM or Dolby Digital track!! Strangely enough I can hear menu sounds = when going through disk menus.
So all in all (at least for me) Corel managed to repair one issue and brought another one so now I am unable to play Blu-ray disks completely!!!
I tried also my XP partition and there everything works fine with the latest build as it did with the previous one.
Anybody else with similar (or even the same) config? Does it work for you?

HDMI Out on Win DVD 9 Plus Blu Ray
Hi Guys,
'Been reading your posts with interest.
I had similar problems when I installed the Asus Xonar HDAV 1.3 sound card on my HTPC and, try as I might, I just couldn't get a sound I was happy with. After a few hours of messing around and reading numerous posts on the myriad of forums I learned the following: You don't necessarily need an HDMI Out option on Win DVD 9 Plus Blu.
And before I go on, let me say that not all HD sound tracks on BD are equal. Hell no! The Dolby True HD track on Iron Man is terrible! However, the Dolby True HD track on Cloverfield is excellent! Why is there a difference? You tell me.
All my devices are interconnected via HDMI 1.3 cable. My o/s is Win XP 32 and the first thing I learned is that Win XP only likes its digital sources in stereo. As soon as I configured 2 Speakers in the Xonar control panel everything sound wise snapped into focus. I'm guessing something similar will apply in Vista or Windows 7.
The other thing that occurred to me is that some discs allow you to use Win DVD 9 Plus Blu to decode the multi-channel source then pipe it to your amplifier(s). Some discs don't.
For instance I always have trouble with Dolby True HD. My amp says there's an HD source and I suspect the amp isn't decoding that source. DTS Master Audio however is very, VERY different. Some BD's with DTS MA allow you to pipe the source (via Win DVD) to your amp and allow the amp to do the decoding and I have to say it sounds bloody wonderful. To be fair, both Dolby and DTS sound very good indeed.
I suspect that some folks want the HDMI Out option to allow their amplifier(s) or AV Receiver to decode the LPCM or PCM bitstreams. If I understand things correctly, you'll only be able to do that if your BD's have those options. Like I said earlier, not all BD's are created equal.
I may be wrong of course.
Before I go then, let me just say that I've spent the last 10 years with SPDIF and 5.1 audio so my knowledge of HDMI and HD audio is limited at present. I'll pass on what I learn.
Thanks for listening.

Danie,
You're very welcome.
In fact I've learned much since my last post. When I get a chance I'll update all.
Enjoy.
