Alludo USER to USER Web Board

Summary:
I recently purchased an HD-SR12 and VideoStudio 11. I now need to get a PC which can handle AVCHD editing in VideoStudio.

Details:
Yesterday, I downloaded the 11.5 upgrade for HD and AVCHD. I imported a video, modified it, and created an HD mpeg. However, things were very choppy on my P4 2.0 Ghz - 1.5 GB of Ram work laptop. After reading how several articles of the intense processing power needed for AVCHD editing, I want to get the minimum requirements to run smoothly in the forum's eyes. Where to splurge (i.e. Dual Core or Quad, More memory in video card - go over 256MB?, more ram (2GB or 4GB(64bit)), and Operating System (Vista or XP)?

Question:
Has this forum already created a thread like this that someone could refer me to or does anyone have any recommendations?

See my system button for my current details. It can handle AVCHD. However, that being said, there are more powerful Quad processors now on the market, and I would go for one of those. And there are also very good and powerful Core 2 Duo processors at 3.0 GHz and over which are also more than capable of doing the job.

I would also go for a graphics card which has 512 MB of its own RAM, though in effect, if you have one below that, it takes some system RAM. And if you have plenty of System RAM, that is less of a concern.

I have no trouble at all with Vista, though some will still swear by XP. Note that Vista still has difficulty in dealing properly with system RAM over around 3.5 GB. But if some of that RAM is going to the graphics card, that seems to be OK too.
