Camcorder sound setting?

Post by Keith C »

The default sound mode for my camcorder is 32kHz.

If I change it to 48kHz will this affect the sound in any way?

Will it improve it?

Does it make any difference to UVS8?

Many thanks

I was just wondering almost the same thing, but with 16 bit and 12 bit audio settings, does it matter?

I'm no pro on this matter, but as I understand it DVD sound is at 48kHz. So if you record using the 12 bit 32 kHz rate the sound will have to be converted during the rendering process. That takes long enough as it is.

This won't take any more space on your camcorder tape so you might as well move to the 48kHz recording. The quality should be better since the sound won't have to be converted after recording. But, I don't know if you will be able to hear the difference or not.

Hi all,

32KHz sound is 12-bit and allows for 4 channels of audio - something that is done on the tape, not in post. It is *rare* that anyone would use it.

48KHz sound is 16-bit and twice the quality as 12-bit.

Use 48KHz unless you have a 4-channel requirement.
