Hitachi Blueray viewcam & videostudio
Okay, so I just received (4 hrs ago) the Hitachi Blueray with HD and apart from the noise generating stuff i'll give it a freakscore of 6 out of 10 and it's output is MPEG1 and it loads right into videostudio 11 plus.

Can you give us a model number. I have Googled but cannot find a usable reference to such a camera.
I also cannot believe that any digital video camera, let alone a Blu-Ray one, would record in low quality mpeg-1 format... unless you are capturing live streaming video from it. However, even then, with a high def camera, I thought it would 'stream' in high def mpeg-2 at the least, if not AVCHD mpeg-4...

Ken,
Hitachi does make a HD camera that records to mini blu-ray discs

Thanks. I knew they existed. It was just that a Google search for 'Hitachi blu-ray camera' did not turn up a reference to it. That is why I asked for a model number. I will now have a look at its specifications since, as I said, I cannot believe such a camera would record in mpeg-1 format...

So I figured out using a 8cm DVD+RW recorded with the Hitachi sets it into standard quality mode, it will burn MPEG1 (not totally sure) according to DVD rip & burn (DVDrip info: MPEG2 (.vob file) videos are recognised as MPEG2) and when the 8cm DVD+RW is captured with the supplied imagemixer from hitachi it will convert to MPEG2 and imports in Videostudio 11.5+.
Also the capture via USB is working and using the HX (highest quality) it converts to extension .m2ts and uses the h264 codec. The video looks and plays great (1920x1080) on my Quadcore 6600 system. Only a little noise is seen on the video captured at a clouded day.
Videostudio 11.5+ imports such streams but when playing and stopping it the program stalls (dont know whats happening).

Do you definitely have VS11.5+ version 11.5.0157.2? Check on the ? symbol in the top right corner of VS, then About Ulead Video Studio.
You say you have a Quad system. Perhaps you should update your profile which still shows a Fujitsu dual core laptop.
And when you say it stalls, do you mean the playback is jerky or does it hang completely?

It is really important that you check that you have version 11.5.0157.2. You say you have VS11.5+ (original) but what does that mean? There was no original VS11.5+. It started life as VS11+. Then you have to add *both* the 6 November 2007 update patch, and then the Power Pack of 8 November to get the above version number. You ignore the December Hot Fix because it only applies to one specific installation problem which you obviously did not have. So did you apply both the update patch and the power pack???

Jasper,
It's pretty simple.
You may want to remove your existing installation and start over.
1) - Install VS11+ download or retail & "Reboot" the computer
DO NOT install the HotFix, that is only if your have installation problems like the program not accepting your serial number or other installation problems etc.
Install the following from the Ulead update site:
http://ulead.com/tech/vs/vs_ftp.htm
2) - Ulead VideoStudio 11 Update Pack (Release Date: 2007/11/6 ) The First VS11+ Update (Reboot)
VS11+ First Patch
3) - Ulead VideoStudio 11 Plus Power Pack (Release Date: 2007/11/8 ) The Second VS11+ Update (Reboot)
VS11+ PowerPack
Now for the 3rd one ( The Power Pack) you should have registered with ulead and made an account username & password. If you haven't done so then make an account. After you sign in you can get the PowerPack. The PowerPack is what adds AVCHD & Blu-Ray Disk creation.
Make sure to register the serial number with Ulead so you will always have access to it later (if you happen to lose it). They will keep a record for you.
4) - VERY Important: Goto the Microsoft Website and download the latest distribution of Directx 9.0C and install it. This is mandatory for VS11+ to work correctly. Even if your running Vista you still install the latest version of Directx 9.0C. Vista will handle it appropriately.
After you have installed VS11+ if your using XP you will not be able to read your "Mini Blu-Ray Disks" because they are in UDF 2.6 format.
If your using Vista you can simply COPY the videos from the "Blu-Ray Mini Disc" STREAMS folder.
If your camcorder makes a true Blu-Ray Disc (which I believe it does) you will have a main folder called BDMV and then the STREAMS folder is under the BDMV folder. The videos are the large ones, the small ones will be menu's for the Blu-Ray Disk.
You may also have the option of recording in the BDAV mode which will not have the above BDMV directory structure.
Either way if using XP you probably will have to use the software provided with your HighDef cam to extract the videos onto your harddisk.
Then you simply use VS "Insert Media" function to load them into the timeline.
Note: If your cam is writing a true BDMV disk (which has Menus) I don't think you can use the "Insert DVD-VR/AVCHD disk function because it's a Blu-Ray disk.
Hope this helps:

Thanks Etech for adding some research stuff,
I figured the problem was something else:
I was reading a 3 minute .m2ts file in the timeline and used playback and then paused, then it seemed as if the program freezed but it was stalling and reading (buffering) from the .m2ts stream (I guess). It took very long so I killed the program from the task manager processes tab.
So what I did: made a short movie (1 min) and it worked although the program still took a long time to get out of the pause mode (23 seconds on a duocore 1.66 GHz system) but at least I get to know the problem now.
More information:
As far as I know I did everything (did not install the first hotfix for installation problems) except this line of your post:
------------
Install the following from the Ulead update site:
http://ulead.com/tech/vs/vs_ftp.htm
------------
For compatibility reasons I made sure I installed the directx 9.0c june-2008 version.
Nevertheless a big thanks for your post.
