MSP 8 Plug-ins, no longer for sale?

Post by RickinSav'h »

VideoGraphics Lab is no longer available for sale it seems.

I've been considering purchasing the plug-in VideoGraphics Lab for MSP8, as well as the MPEG-4, 3GPP, & Smart Compositor Template Pack plug-ins for MSP 8.

I believe it was only last week, maybe 2 weeks ago that I saw VideoGraphics Lab still for sale on the ULead web site for 29.99 US dollars.

Should I act fast if I intend to purchase the other plug-ins?

Someone from ULead / Corel, please PM me I would like to purchase the VideoGraphics Lab, I just need to know how.

I suggest if Corel is going to start dropping the plug-ins, that they inform the user community. Is there a dead line for getting the remaining plug-ins?

Does anyone know how long before a discontinued software product becomes public domain? I mean, if no one is profiting from the sale or providing support anymore, then there is no harm in sharing software.

I am not advocating piracy, merely enquiring if anyone knows the legalities of this kind of situation. I know some old games become free after not being sold for a time.

It could apply to add-ons also.

I agree. If you have a file sale you at least make some money and get rid of inventory.

1. This is a little naughty. They said that they would offer support until June 2009. I think that plug-ins constitute 'support'!

2. No question of discontinued software falling into the public domain before decades (can vary from 25 to 75 years, according to national laws, I think). The fact that it is not commercially available makes no difference.

3. No Ulead/Corel personnel reads this forum (possible exception on odd occasions of Tobie) so don't expect a reply from them. You could try a PM to him: his nick is bignosetw, I think.

Found a way to still get VideoGraphics Lab!

Post by RickinSav'h »

I figured a way around the Corel decision to stop selling VideoGraphics Lab...
You can still purchase MSP 8. You can purchase MSP 8 with VideoGraphics Lab.
Yesterday I put MSP8 with VideoGraphics Lab in "my shopping cart". I then deleted MSP 8, & the 2 year software download insurance (x2). Proceeded to check out & $29.99 later I have a download link & serial number.
Oddly enough the installation never asked for a serial number & when viewing "about" the serial number displayed is different than the one provided at checkout. There is also nothing I found where you can add your serial number later. The "online registration" under the help menu fills in the serial number displayed in "about" rather than the one supplied at checkout. When I "view your products" in "your account" is see VideoGraphics Lab with a purchase date of yesterday & the serial number supplied at check out.

Hopefully none of the serial number oddities make any difference in the years to come.

Tobie (bignosetw) PM'ed me back stating that he would get back with me in a couple of days. I'll PM him today & let him know that I found a work around.

They're not going to support in the future so I guess it wouldn't matter.

Gents

The Corel.com Website has just had a redesigned and was streamlined, so I guess those items didn't make it on to the new site.

However, the Ulead.com website is still up and both the template packs and VGL is still for sale there.

Plug-ins: http://www.ulead.com/msp/plugin.htm
Video Graphics Lab: http://www.ulead.com/vgl/runme.htm

This site is set to stay up for the foreseeable future, and I will have a word with the PMs to make sure the plug-ins and VGL doesn't just disappear.

Best regards

Tobie

Ok, my bad: the VideoGraphics Lab page actually does say "This product is no longer for sale."

The Plug-ins are still available, though.

Best regards
