Regarding Ulead DVD MovieFactory 6:
I read my manual and searched around here, but couldn't find any info defining what the following error message is:
"There is an internal error in the DVD Engine"
Could anyone tell me what this means?
This message popped up when burning a DVD-Video disc. It was during Step 3 of 3 when the program was in the middle of its Video/Audio Multiplexing process and just before it begins to write to the blank DVD+R 16x disc.
Please note: I have used this program since last fall and have burned several dozen DVD-Video discs--all without any problem. I've even used 3 different types of DVD+R discs: TDK (CMC made), Verbatim (Mitsubishi Chemical made), and some Maxell discs (Ritek made). In fact, the particular project was nearly the same as 5 other discs I burned recently. No software additions recently, either.
I tried updating the program with 2 additional updates from the website, but that had no effect. I then flash updated the firmware on my NEC ND-3550A from 1.05 to 1.07. This was updated successfully, but the error message came up. I then defragmented both hard drives (eventhough Windows said it wasn't necessary)--error still came up.
I then tried to burn a DVD disc with an MPEGII video file that was only about 2 Gb in size. I used one of the Ulead menus and it burned just fine and played just fine in my DVD player. This leads me to believe that the program would burn my project because it's too big (4.19 Gb). However, I have burned bigger projects than that without any errors and they play fine in my DVD player (I did one that's 4.35 Gb in size--just 0.03 Gb under the limit).
Thanks for any help with this error message!
Error Question: Internal Error in the DVD Engine ??
Are you saying this happened only after updating the burner's firmware?
Do you have any other burning software you can try out?
No, this error message came up before updating the burner's firmware. It still comes up when trying to burn this project.
I still have an older version of MovieFactory (V. 2, I think). I also have Nero Version 7, but I don't like it that much and only use it for archiving data files. I don't like it for making playable DVD-Video discs. I did uninstall MovieFactory 6, then reinstall it, yet the error message still came up. This is very perplexing, since I've never had a single problem with it before.
Do you know what the "DVD Engine" in the error message is ?
I Don't know exactly what that error means. Except that the "burning engine" (the part/module of the program that takes care of burning) generated or detected an error.
If Nero also fails, then you've got a problem with the burner, or it's driver or firmware.
If Nero works, Movie Factory is the problem, or you have a conflict. Make sure Nero InCD (or any other "drag & drop" buring software) is not running in the background. These can take-over your burner.
And if Nero works, there may be a work-around. You can "burn" your project to your hard drive, and then use Nero to copy that "image" to an actual DVD: Un-check the box that says Create To Disc, and check the box that says Create DVD DVD/HD Folders or the box that says Create Disc Image.

I got it
Thanks, DVDDoug, for your assistance. I was just about to try your suggestion with Nero when I got an idea. The video file I was trying to make a DVD-Video with (similar to a group of DVDs I had recently burned) was originally an MPEG II video file, as captured by my ADS Tech device. I started to examine this video file. I use MovieFactory 6 to edit out the commercials and excess footage at front and back. Then I export the selected clips and save them as an MPEG II video file under a new name. From that screen, I think I may have accidently gone into "Options" and changed MPEG II to NTSC-DVD. I'm not sure what why this may have caused the error message, but I decided to go back to square one with this file.
I took the original capture, edited the commercials, and saved it; making sure that the file on the "Options" sub-menu was MPEG II and not NTSC-DVD. I then went throught the same process to make a DVD-Video disc and it worked just fine--no error message.
I guess that was the issue.
Thanks again for the help!
