Step-byStep guide wanted for noob.

I¡¦ve bought a Sony HD camera (using, ofcourse, the AVCHD format). I¡¦m used to work with both Pinnacle and Magix software for editing my videos, but both products are not quite suitable for HD editing (Pinnacle tends to crash very often and Magix get¡¦s very slow even though I¡¦ve a brand new pc with quite good specs). So now I¡¦ve switched to VideoStudio.
So far I¡¦m really pleased with the software. Ofcourse, HD editing is a real challenge for any computer system but VideoStudio performs much better than Pinnacle of Magix. But I¡¦m a noob as far as VideoStudio and AVCHD editing is concerned (not that I¡¦m an expert in video editing what so ever¡K.).
What I¡¦m looking for is a step-by-step guide for 2 things:
- Importing, editing and burning AVCHD on DVD in the best quality possible
- Importing, editing and burning AVCHD on DVD in best possible balance between performance and quality.
Sometimes I want to have the best quality (for example movies of my children) and sometimes I¡¦m willing to get a little less quality (movies of parties etc) if this speeds up editing and rendering.
So many formats, so many ways of editing and burning, what is this smart-proxy etc. I¡¦m not quite sure how to use this.
Does anyone on this forum know a good guidebook or how-to article on this subject? Or maybe someone can give my some AVCHD for dummies introduction? The help function in VideoStudio is a little short....
Your help is much appreciated!
Kind regards,
Michiel.
