Alludo USER to USER Web Board

I've had VideoStudio for quite some time but now I installed a new version (11.0) because I had a new computer. I've used VideoStudio before and I was always able to edit .AVI files in it but now it doesn't even want to insert those files into the timeline. Can anyone help me solve this problem?

Unfortunately, there are over 800 different video types which use the extension .avi. It is just a carrier or wrapper format for all but true uncompressed .avi, which is huge and runs to around 65 GB for an hour of video. But at the other end of the spectrum are the highly compressed types, like DivX or XVid, which can render very good quality at about 700 MB per hour of video.

So do you have any idea where your particular .avi video came from? And how it was captured?

If the computer is a new one, then almost undoubtedly it will not have the relevant codec for the video if it is not uncompressed .AVI or DV/AVI, the codecs for which are installed as part of Windows. But if, for instance, it is DiVX or XVid, then you need to download and install the relevant codec yourself.

I can't directly answer our question... I don't know why these files are not working on the new version. Did these exact-same files work with the older version?

If you still have the old version of Video Studio installed, you can copy/drag the file into the timeline and right-click to get its exact format & properties.

It may just be a matter of finding the correct CODEC. (I've never used a 3rd-party CODEC with Video Studio, so I can't help with that.) Or, you may need to convert to a different format with your older version of Video studio, or with a 3rd-party program. AVI/DV (13 GB per hour) from a MiniDV camera is the most-foolproof format.
