8.5 Dual layer DVDs

Post by Nunk »

Hi All,

I am using a Quad Core 2.4 Pc with 4gig of ram over 1 terabyte of hard disk space. My DVD drive is Samsung DVD sh-s182m. I tried to create a DVD which was about 5.5 gigs in size. Videostudio 11 plus said it created the DVD but when I checked the DVD I was unable to read the disk on my PC or on my DVD player.

So I took the disk image that Videostudio created and tried to burn the DVD with Nero 6 again the software told me the my DVD had been successfully created but I was unable to read the disk on my PC DVD drive or on my DVD player. I have made 3 lovely DVD costars and as much as I like them I really don¡¦t want anymore. Could someone help me with this problem?

Thanks In Advance

You haven't really told us what the problem is other than you have discs that has something on them but not readable.

It could be hardware, software or settings you are using.

Lets start with the kind of files you are working with and how you are telling VS to create the DVD. We'll need to know what steps you are taking in VS.

The more information you can give the quicker we can pin pint a potential problem and help resolve it

Thank you for responding, sorry here¡¦s some more information to help you help me. I know Videostudio 11 plus wrote something to the disk but I cannot read it. The disk shows empty on my pc. I check for an upgrade for the firmware of my DVD drive and I am up to date. When I try to create disk I do the following this process: From Videostudio 11 plus I select 16:9, when program loads and shows splash screen. I select TOOLS ¡V Create Disk and click DVD which give you a check mark by the side. I then add all the mpeg movies and use the following settings.

In Videostudio 11 plus the preferences I use are as follows:

GENERAL TAB
VCD Player Compliant UNCHECK
Anti Flicker Filter CHECKED
Resume all confirmation dialog boxes UNCHECKED
TV System NTSC

Max 30MB menus for set top DVD+VR recorder
File Format NTSC DVD

ADVANCED TAB
Create index file for MPEG seeking performance UNCHECKED
NTSC/PAL safe color CHECKED
TV safe area set to the value of 10

My Project Settings Are:

Mpeg Properties For File Conversion
MPEG files
24 bits, 720 x 480, 29.97 fps
Lower Field First
(DVD-NTSC), 16:9
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 8000 kbps)
Audio data rate: 256 kbps
Dolby Digital Audio, 48 KHz, 2/0(L,R)

Display Aspect Ratio 16:9
Field Type Lower Field First (DV)
Do not covert compliant MPEG files CHECKED
Support X Disc UNCHECKED
Two Pass Conversion CHECKED
Tread MPEG Audio As Non DVD Compliant Unchecked

The above process works on 4.7 gig DVDs

HERE ARE THE PROPERTIES OF ONE OF MY MPEG FILES

Video
Video Type: MPEG-2 Video Upper Field First
Attributes 24 bits, 720 x 480, 16:9
Frame Rate: 29.970
Data Rate: Variable Bit Rate (Max. (9100 kbps)

Audio
Audio Type: Dolby Digital Audio
Total Samples: 15,107,908 Samples
Attributes 48000 Hz
Layer: None
Bit Rate 256 kbps

I hope this will help you please let me know if you need other information

Thanks

Thanks for those properties. They are for your clips and your project. However, you are missing another important set of properties; those of your ouput. When you click on Share>Create Disc you will see a cogwheel icon in the bottom left. Please tell us those properties too.

Also, your clips are Upper Field First, yet your project is set for Lower Field First. This probably will cause you problems with the quality of your video, although it has nothing to do with your current problem. Always make sure your project properties match your clips.

Have a read of our Suggested Workflow.

Sorry for the misunderstanding. Those properties you gave we usually refer to as the "burn" or "output" properties, as Project Properties refers to the VSP (Video Studio Project) that you create in the timeline. Project Properties can be seen by clicking File>Project Properties.

Anyway, since your VS burns 4.7 discs ok, I would suspect bad discs, or at least a kind that your burner doesn't like. :(

Check HERE to see how your discs rate.

Hi

The weird thing about this is Videostudio burns the disk and says the burn was successful and Nero does the same thing too. So maybe its the disk media i am using.
