Resolving a problem

Post by Editor »

I've used videostudio 10 plus for over a year now, and snce then i've been able to import DVD's through it. Now only just, i've encountered a problem and it wont allow me to do it. It will however let me import videos through everything else.

Can anyone possibly help me, with anything concerning this?

Thankyou

perhaps you can explain the steps you are using now and we can offer something alternative if you were doing something wrong?

Have you tried the DVDs that worked before? Because, some DVDs can be "difficult" to import, and it might be the particular DVD(s) that you are trying to import this time.

I have tried the same DVD's before yes. Because it won't import proper DVD's i use certain copies to import.

So the first step i do is obviously open it up. Then go on capture, then import from DVD/DVD-R
It says unspecified error. No initialization.

It's never done so before, so i'm not sure. I was thinking of uninstalling it, then installing it back on again. In case there's a problem trying to get the import to work.

Have you tried first copying the DVD to your hard drive, then try importing?

Have you recently installed some other Corel/Ulead Software - in particular MovieFactory or DVD Workshop? If so please view:

No i'm not actually sure how to do that to be honest. I've this sonic program for disc copying etc but i dont think that i can put the DVD on through that.

I'm sure that with DVD shrink you can put the DVD onto hardrive. Any other way to do it easily?

I haven't installed any other software either.

A DVD contains data, regardless of the format of that data being video. So to get it onto your computer, you use the same Windows commands you would use to transfer data from a data CD or USB stick or external hard drive: simply Copy and Paste. (Copy the files on the DVD, then open [My] Computer or Windows Explorer on your computer, browse to where you want to store the files, and Paste them there.

Then you can use 'Insert DVD/DVD-VR' from that new folder on your computer. It is, of course, possible, that there is some small corruption on this particular DVD. In that case, the fall-back would be to simply change the files which have the .vob extension to the new extension .mpg. Then you should be able to simpy use 'Insert Video' in VS to open them.
