11+ Share hangs at Preview

I am using VS 11.5.0157.2 Plus on a Dell Inspiron 6000 with 2 gigs of RAM and a 120 Gig HD (14.2Gb free). I have been using this for some time, successfully. In fact, this video is one that I have successfully burned to DVD in the past.
I select Share, then Create Disc (I choose DVD from the pull down), then the 1st window comes up. I de-select Create Menu and Use First Clip..., then click on Next. The Preview window comes up. I don't know if this is new, but the Project Settings icon and the Change Display Aspect Ratio icon are grayed out. i can preview the movie and I can use the Back button. When I click on Next, the Project Settings icon changes to active (normal appearance), but I cannot get out of the Preview window. He computer is fine and I can close the window without consequences, but i cannot burn a DVD. I can make an MPEG video file.
Some of my source files are VSP, some are MPEG videos, and some are JPEG still images.
Project Properties:
NTSC drop frame (29.97 fps)
MPEG files
24 bits, 720 x 480, 29.97 fps
Lower Field First (I tried Frame-based, too)
(DVD-NTSC), 16:9
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 8000 kbps)
Audio data rate: 256 kbps
Dolby Digital Audio, 48 KHz, 2/0(L,R)
I'm making a 16:9 NTSC DVD.
No error messages.
What could be causing this?

Updating your Microsoft DirectX seems to fix a lot of these preview-type problems.

I use DirectX for some of the other things that I do, so I generally keep it fresh. DXDiag reports 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904). And, yes, I have re-booted since it was installed. Can you run that on your PC and let me know if you show a later build?

I am running Vista so can't check the build number, but the latest build is dated June 2008, so if you haven't updated in the last month, you should check it out...

I had a similar problem several weeks ago where I could not burn. I suspect a Windows update did something to screw things up, as I hadn't added any new software/hardware. A System Restore to a few weeks prior and reinstall of my VS10+ fixed it.

It's the middle of my son's baseball season and with 5 games a week I haven't had time to try to figure out the exact cause.

This is essentially the same problem I am having with VS11 (though I am using Vista and my output is PAL). See "Next Button" thread.

If you want to resolve this problem then go to your control panel. Select programs and features in vista or add remove programs in xp. Remove your installation of videostudio. Once this has been done select user accounts icon by double clicking it. Then select turn user account control on or off. Do this and turn off your user account control. It will ask you to restart your computer but dont for now. Go to the security centre icon and double click this. Click the windows firewall on the left side of the screen. Click turn off fire wall and continue. In the firewall settings turn it off by checking the off (not recommended) setting. Dont worry about the not recommended warning. This will only be for a short time and you must be off the internet for security reasons.

Now shut down your computer. Once the computer has restarted place the video studio cd into the tray and follow the prompts. Install videostudio as in the usual fashion. When complete follow the recommendations. Now go back to your firewall and activate it as in the case ON. Before restarting go to the user account and turn the user account control back on. It will ask you to restart the computer.

I am 98% confident that videostudio will work PERFECTLY! Try it it will work.

For XP users turn of the fire wall and reinstall video studio. When done go to Program files in your computer and find the videostudio folder. Locate the vstudio application icon or the .exe file. Right click on this and RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR this will open videostudio. Close it down and reinstate the firewall setting.

I am 98% confident that videostudio will work perfectly. Try it and all the glitches will have vanished...

What have you got to lose but more to gain. Trust me you will be grateful.

If you find it did not work then I apologise to you but as I said theres more to gain and I want it to work. I just love videostudio and moviefactory.

Ive got Pinnacle ultimate Sony vegas but I hardly use these because I prefer videostudio plus. FANTASTIC!!!!!

Thanks for the responses GubGub and SteveDVD. I have been following GubGub's thread. Steve, I have done this procedure 3 times, now. It works each time, but after some indeterminate time has passed, it happens again. It is possible that Windows Updates are causing the problem, but I don't really know. Any thoughts on why this re-occurs? I'm running WinXP SP2. Have you tried SP3, yet? I'm a little reluctant to open that can of worms...

Im not sure but somehow I think you have a conflict issue that interferes with videostudio. You may be using another program at these interval times that for some reason corrupts videostudio. Hence thats why settings change strangely!!! You say that it work fine but over time it acts strangely. This will be difficult to pin point. Its a shame that your having these issues but maybe someone else can have a go here and get it going smoothly. I feel sorry for you because I love using this software as I would love to see it work for you in retrospect. Damn computers hey!!!
