Hi there can anyone explain why the two options Edit room and join/seperate video in step one of three are grayed out? I have tried to search the forum for an answer but to no avail. Any help would be really gratefully received.
Thanks

Edit room and join/seperate video grayed out?????
Sony HDR SR11E
It depends if your source videos are in an editable format or not.
Where did you get them from? Previous readings I think you have an AVCHD camcorder maybe?
If they are in the Transport Stream Format there may be many options not available to use.
Are you importing the videos using the "Import DVD-Vr/AVCHD disk" or are you inserting them directly into the timeline?
I think when MF6+ imports avchd content it will convert it to a different container that can be edited. I'll have to check on that.
While on the timeline highlight one of the video and right_click on it -> Then select 'Media Properties" or while the video is highlighted click on the "I" (for information Icon).
Post back the Video & Audio properties of your source videos.
What is your end product? How are you playing back your source videos? On the computer? A Blu-Ray disk player? DVD player? High Definition or are you converting them to a dvd for standard definition.

Same problem
I have the same problem. I can import from a Canon HG10 using either the import function or the video import function and they appear on the timeline but "edit room" and "join" are grayed out.
Edit room grayed out
I have figured out a way to get this to work using AVCHD imports from my canon HG10. Here are the steps and they are a pain but it appears the only way to do it.
1. Import AVCHD files from the camera using the import function from main screen.
2. Right click each file sequentially and export" them using HD 1920 choice. I created a separate directory to store all of these.
3. Start a new project and use the "import video" icon to import all of the files from the directory you exported the original AVCHD files. You can multiselect to get them all in.
4. They will be in MPEG 1920/1080i format and you can use the edit room and joining etc. for the project now.
5. The resultant HD disk looks very good (just as good as the one I burned just editing the native AVCHD without the benefits of the transitions etc. and joining you get from the edit room.
Make sure you set your initial project when you first bring in the AVCHD files to HD using standard DVDs or blue ray or whatever you want. Same for new project once you have exported the files.
