Purchased DVD MovieFactory 6+
Updated to Version 6.10 using the 2 patches.
Imported .m2ts files from my HD-DVD Camera (Canon Vixia HF100)
Running BD DiscRecorder (to burn on LG GGW-H20L Blu-Ray Burner)
Questions.
So, I import my various clips and arrange them as I want...but, two very important options appear to be non-existent.
1) Save Project. My only options appear to be "Next" which takes me to the burn screen, or "Close" which takes me out of the project without the option to save. I'm never asked what I want to do with the stuff I'm working on (unless I just want to burn it). What have I overlooked?
2) Menus! Now...my guess is that I need to run the "Movie Factory" in order to get menus loaded into my project....but...when the splash screen comes up when I open MF6+, I choose "New Blu-Ray Project" and it takes me right into BD DiscRecorder without the options (for lack of a better word) to actually put menus etc... around my project.
Advice?

First, if the don't have the MovieFactory HD-Add-On Power pack you can only make BDAV disks (which only use playlists).
You need to buy this package to make BDMV disks (Blu-Ray disks with Menus).
MovieFactory HD-Power-Pack-Add-On:
http://www.ulead.com/dmf/plugin.htm
Install it and from the launcher when you select Video goto select Blu-Ray Disk to the right is the TYPE of Blu-Ray disk you want to make. Make sure to select BDMV in the drop-down box.
Make sure when you go into the MovieFactory program you don't have a standard dvd in your burner or the Blu-Ray disk function will not appear.
Either leave the Blu-Ray Disk in or out of the burner, but don't have a dvd or CD in the burner or the Blu-Ray function will not showup.

Before I got a BD burner, I would get the selection menu that you're talking about.... but now with the BD burner installed and a blank disk in I get a pop-up: "NEED MENUS? yes/no"
If I answer "yes" then MF6 goes into its normal menu building interface. If I answer "no" then it jumps right into the Disk burner interface.
Neonbob,
Yes, Actually the last time I ran MF6+ it said Blu-Ray Disk Standard.
Maybe a difference if you go into it from the MF6+ launcher screen.
If I have a dvd in the drive the Blu-Ray feature doesn't even show-up.
The BDAV is actually the BD Disk Recorder that's available directly from the Start -> Programs etc.
What's nice about the MF6+ Blu-Ray BDMV program is you can mix compliant HD-Mpeg2 OR Compliant AVCHD vidoes.
The compliant standard for AVCHD on DVDoptical media Max_Bit_Rate is 18,000. So if one encodes (from another program) an avchd video at 15MBS Average but a Max_Bit_Rate of 20MBS (or even higher bit-rates) then in the MF6+ AVCHD module the avchd video will be re-encoded to the project settings (under the GEAR Icon). In the AVCHD module if you don't want your source re-encoded it must have a Max_Bit_Rate < Less Than 18MBS.
Blu-Ray AVCHD video has a much higher Max_Bit_Rate for AVC/H264 AVCHD compliant video.
In the Blu-Ray BDMV module the default "Project Settings " is for HD-Mpeg2 video. But you can put compliant AVCHD videos in this module and IF they are compliant then they will not be re-encoded. You don't want AVCHD re-encoded in the Blu-Ray Module because it will be converted to HD-Mpeg2. Which, of course we don't want.
My point is in the Blu-Ray BDMV module AVCHD video falls under a different spec (it's much higher). I've used AVCHD videos that are 15MBS average but 20MBS Max in the Blu-Ray module and they have NOT been re-encoded. If I use the same videos in the AVCHD module then they are re-encoded.
So there is a difference in the specs whether burning in the AVCHD or Blu-Ray Module.
When I make Blu-Ray Movies on my harddisk (or an ISO file) they contain both HD-Mpeg2 & AVCHD videos.
When I get time I'll encode some AVCHD compliant videos at 20MBS+.
I'll find out what the max bit rate the BDMV module will accept as compliant.
Also, in the BDMV module it can be a good idea under the GEAR Icon to also check ON the X-Disc box. That is for when some videos are not completely compliant but still fall within playable limits of the mpeg2 spec.
X-Disc stands for "eXtended Disc Format".
Ex: In the DVD burning module you can use a 480x480 SVCD video as long as the audio is 48kkz, normally the videos are 44,100khz and therefore not compliant and are converted.
So for the X-Disc to work the videos must be completely compliant on the audio side.

Thanks Etech... I'll have a look.etech6355 wrote:Neonbob,
I suggest taking a look at the "Ulead Burn Now 4.5" program.
You can burn Blu-Ray Folders to a Blu-Ray disk OR make an ISO file from the Blu-Ray Folders. Also many other features.
Start -> Programs -> MF6 -> Ulead Burn Now 4.5
It has many possibilities.
I don't know about the avchd, but I'm pumping out the old fashioned mpeg2 at 30M and MF6 is quite happily burning at that rate.
I'm really impressed with this program... it's come so far. I remember MF3.... couldn't get it to do anything right, but this...
Hats off to Corel.
Hmmm...I would suggest that the blurb on the box is borderline misleading, then..."Create both HD DVD and Blue-Ray Video Discs"etech6355 wrote:First, if the don't have the MovieFactory HD-Add-On Power pack you can only make BDAV disks (which only use playlists).

I can't be the only one who would naturally assume this means that those discs would be similar to any authored DVD that I've created for the past several years.
I suppose $20 won't break me...
And, I very much appreciate your comments.
Thanks.
