Add images to video without altering video

I would like to add multiple images from my image library to my video at one time (blocks of images) in my video. I enable Ripple editing, use timeline view, and drag the images from the library to the timeline. For some reason the first couple do NOT alter the video (in other words, before the images and after the images the video picks up right where it ends, but when I add more images, it cuts into my video time and I'm losing precious time from the video. How can I somehow "stop" the video, drop down my images from the library, then tell it to start where it left off? I am using the 11.5 Plus program, my operating system is a Dell XPS Studio 420 Dimension, Intel core2 processor Q6600, w/quadcore and 8 MB cache, Microsoft Vista Home Premium, 3 GB 667 MGZ DDr2 4 DIMM memory with 750 GB 7200 RPM hard drive, with over 90% free space. Using Sony handycam DCR-DVD 408 NTSC, which records directly to disc, no video adapter, import into product using the disk. Please, I am amateur, have mercy!

The easiest way it to split your project up into smaller projects each tackling one bit at a time. Start a new project and drag your stills to that new empty project, do what you want with them such as animate them and/or add music.

Next save that project with a meaningful name e.g. slidesjul08.vsp
Now import that vsp into your original project. VideoStudio will treat that vsp file as if it was a rendered video file.

Rendered video file still altering original project

I have the new project imported as a vsp file into my original project, but when I attempt to drop the new video file from the video library and insert it into the video timeline-it is overlaying on the video track. How do I drop the new video from the video library and not alter my original project?
