OK,
Lets clear this up. Get out of the timeline templates. Make your own. I imagine many have been referencing exporting from the VS11+ timeline.

Start a new VS11+ session: Make your "Project Settings" for the VS11+ timeline set to HDV 1440x1080, 25MBS CBR, Mpeg Audio@384kbs.
Save the Project. Do not load any videos into the VS11+ timeline.

Goto "Share -> Create Disk -> AVCHD" Make sure to have an empty timeline when you go into the AVCHD module.

First setup your "Preferences" for the AVCHD burning Module:
When your in the AVCHD burning module click on the lower left hand corner Icon and select "Preferences", assign an easily accessible "Working Folder" for the AVCHD burning module. Preferrable a large NTFS drive. Make sure the "Do not convert & X-Disc" are checked ON"
Exit "Preferences"
Click on the lower left hand corner Icon again and this time select "Disk Template Manager", make sure "AVCHD" is selected at the top right hand drop-down box.
Click on "NEW", then make the following settings to create a permanent template that you can later apply as your "Project Settings" for the AVCHD Burning Module.

Make this template:
Template Alias Tab: Assign a name such as "AVCHD 1440x1080 18MBS VBR Dolby 5.1@448kbs"

General Tab:
FrameSize = 1440x1080
FrameType = Upper Field First

Compression Tab:
Qualtiy = 100%
Video Data Rate 18,000kbs Constant Bit Rate OR Variable Bit Rate (Preferred 18MBS VBR or 15MBS CBR)
Audio Format can be either LPCM, Dolby 2/0 or Dolby 5.1 @384kbs or @448kbs (Preferred Dolby 5.1@448kbs)

Now go back to the "General Tab" and Double Check the FrameSize & Fielding information. For some reason when you make a change between tabs the program tries to revert back to "Lower Field First" or may even change the FrameSize.

Hit "OK" to save this template.
Hint: Hit the "EDIT" Icon & double check all your settings again, especially for the correct fielding whcih is usually Upper_Field_First for HDV (hd-mpeg2) source videos.

I suggest using 18MBS@VBR using Dolby 5.1@448kbs (Great qualtiy yielding small file sizes, Average Bit Rate will be approx 12MBS)
Exit the template manager.

1) - Now while you are still in the AVCHD burning module 1st screen timeline click on the "GEAR" Icon.

2) - Click on "Change Mpeg Settings" and select the previous "Template" from the dropdown list that you created using the above instructions.
This will now assign your customized template as the AVCHD burning modules "Project Properties/Settings" These are the values the encoder will use to render/encode the AVC/H264 AVCHD compliant videos onto the AVCHD disk you will be burning.

3) - Insert your original HDV files while IN the AVCHD burning module. Let the AVCHD module convert your HDV vidoes to AVC/H264 AVCHD compliant videos.

Burn an AVCHD disk at 18MBS AVCHD.

A big difference between MF6+ with the HD-Add-On Pack is in MF6+ (with the HD-Add-On) you can EXPORT your videos to a local file).

VS11+ uses a similar method encoding the AVC/H264 videos.
In VS11+ you will find the converted videos under the following directory.
The "Burning Modules Working Folder -> DMF_TEMP -> CvtedTitle\
Example: If your assigned Working Folder set under Preferences while in the AVCHD module is C:\VS11_AVCHD
then the new AVC/H264 videos will be encoded in the following directory.
C:\VS11_AVCHD\DMF_TEMP\CvtedTitle\xxxxxxxx.mpg

These videos will still be in this directory after you burn an AVCHD disk. They are simply in a different container format than on a true AVCHD disk and will have an extension of MPG.
You can always re-use these AVCHD compliant videos in other projects, because they are already AVCHD compliant they will not be re-encoded again.
You can use these AVCHD videos in a Blu-Ray project and they will not be re-encoded because they are AVCHD compliant.
Soon, I'll post how to export AVCHD videos at different bit rates from the VS 11 timeline so one isn't limited to using the pre-built 15MBS templates.

Hope this helps

I have an update to my Blu-ray testing.

So far, my LG Blu-ray RE 25GB discs have worked perfectly in the following Blu-ray players:

Sony BDP-S500
Panasonic DMP-BD30
Panasonic SA-BT100

I'm beginning to think it will work with most Blu-ray players, but it won't work on PS3s. I'm going to be testing again on my friend's PS3. The only difference this time is that I used Videostudio to burn my disc vs. creating the Blu-ray folders and then burning those folders using Nero. I will get back to you guys again.

Hi,
If you use Nero make sure you don't use the default settings or you will just be burning a BD data disk.

To manually burn Blu-Ray Folders to a BD disk and create a compliant BDMV disk using Nero you goto
"New" -> Blu-Ray Disk
UDF Only:
In the UDF Format you change the selection from "Automatic" to Manual and the select "Physical Partition", UDF Format = 2.6

If you don't do this Nero will just be making a BD Data disk.
Nero's default UDF "Automatic" setting I think uses UDF 2.0 or 2.1, Blu-Ray BDMV disks are UDF 2.6 format (so are AVCHD dvd disks).
The reason for writing in UDF format on Optical Disk Media is for very large files.

Once you burn a DVD or BD at UDF 2.6:
You cannot read the disk under XP via windows explorer, but some software players can playback the disk.

Vista's explorer can read the UDF 2.5 & 2.6 formats so you can view & Navigate a disk if you want to, and of course play it back using a software player.

If you have purchased "Movie Factory 6+" it also comes with the "Ulead Burn-Now 4.5" software which burns almost any type of folder to it's corresponding media. VCD/SVCD/DVD/BDMV.
The "Ulead Burn-Now 4.5" program is nice, it has many features including making an ISO file out of the Blu-Ray Disk Folders that are created on the harddsik or burn the "Blu-Ray Folders" directly to a Blu-Ray Disk which will then be a compliant BDMV Disk.

Also, if your using Rewritable BD-RE's you may sometimes have to perform a "Full Erase" instead of "Fast Erase". I know I've come across this a few times using DVD+RW's, I had to perform a "Full Erase" before I could use it as an AVCHD disk..

2. My problem, which I have listed in the Movie Factory thread, is that I can not get the M2TS file I am using to get to the last step in MF6+. It will load and Play but loop forever when I push the next button in MF6+ to get to the disk/hard drive creation phase. Do I need Movie Factory 6.5+? I am trying to write these out so my toshiba A2 HD DVD can play my HD PVR recordings there. I want to keep them in HD PVR MPEG4 smaller size format and was hoping MF6+ could do it without recoding. I did find another program, TMPGEnc 4.0 XPress, that would convert the HD PVR MPEG4 to mpeg 2 that would work with MF6+, but the files sizes of the mpeg 2 are considerably larger, which would reguire many DVD/DVD-DL's and many hours of recoding time.
Hi

Sorry I made a mistake calling MF6 with all trhe patches as MF6.5. So MF6 with all the patches is still MF6.

The original Post subject was Re: BDMV and Playstation 3. Therefore how does your Toshiba A2 HD DVD come into to this tread.

MF6 can author Blu-ray discs with HDV footage without re-encoding which will play on PS3 without any problems. I have just finished a new Blu-ray BDMV project with 2 hours of HDV footage on a BD-RE 25GB disc.

Using VS11.5Plus & MF6 Plus you can output & author a normal DVD+RW/DVD+DL in AVCHD format with HDV footage with re-encoding which will play on PS3 without any problems, as the disc structure will be in BDMV format. AVCHD max. bit rate 15 mbs. HDV Mpeg2 25 mbs.
Hi

Sorry about bringing in Toshiba A2 HD DVD. I noticed the MF6.5+ and though there was maybe a new update to MF6+ that might solve my problems loading in MPEG-4 AVC HDTV files created by my Hauppuage HD PVR into MF6+.

I have tried loading the original TS MPEG-4AVC and remuxed MPEG-4AVC M2TS versions of the Hauppuage HD PVR files into MF6+.

I would like to create both PS3 AVCHD and Toshiba A2 HD DVD normal DVD+RW/DVD+DL disks without editing or re-encoding from the HDTV Hauppuage HD PVR files. I was trying the HD DVD first because MF6+ does not have the PS3/Blu-Ray options.

Do you think the MF6+ (with HD Power Pack) might work with the Hauppuage HD PVR files for conversion to the PS3 and/or Toshiba HD DVD as the MF6+ without the HD Power Pack behaves incorrectly as I described in my earlier post?
Hi

I have download the following 80mb clip encoded by the Hauppauge HD-PVR from the link below & made AVCHD DVD on a DVD+RW with MF6+
which plays very well on a PS3.

ftp://ftp.shspvr.com/download/moive_cli ... 0i_h264.ts

The .ts extension must be rename to .mpg before importing to MF6+

I downloaded the video and it read 1920x1080 with an average bit-rate of 5MBS.
The video looks great, that's a great capture card.

Under Vista VS11+ couldn't identify the aac audio but loaded the video.
MF6+ didn't want to load the video no matter what extension I used.
Go figure..

Hi

MF6+ will not load even with .mpg extension, so you have to load it into VS11.5P and do Share - Create Video File - AVCHD - H.264(1920 x 1080).
The resulting output will double in size to 179MB (original 82MB). This output file can now be loaded into MF6. The Audio can now be changed to
Dolby 5.1 by pressing the bottom left hand Gear Wheel Icon. Change MPEG Settings - Custmomize - Compression Tab - Quality 100% - Audio format - Dolby Digital audio - Audio type - 3/2(L,C,R,SL,SR). As I was so impressed with the capture quality just ordered the Hauppauge HD PVR from the US main site, and they will even ship the item from Ireland to Europe. Hi,
I'll post some tips that I use:

You can extract the audio only from your videos by using the program vlc.
VLC open file (left up arrow)->browse & select your movie. Do not try play the movie because vlc for windows doesn't play interlaced avc video.

1) - Click the check box "Stream/Save" -> then "Settings"
2) - Check the "File" checkbox ON. Then browse & name an output file (ex: movie.wav)
Do not click on the "Play Locally"
At the bottom for encoding parameters:
4) - Check the box "WAV"
5) - Check the box "Audio codec" & then select "s16L"
6) - Manually type in the "Bitrate(kb/s) box" 1536
Then click "OK" (brings you back to the file/open screen)
Then click "OK" to convert only the audio.

Playback that same audio file in vlc & you should be able to hear the audio.
You could also use other audio codecs but for editing purposes wav/pcm is the most reliable.

You can now use this wav file as the audio file in VS11+

Next I'll post how to create a custom avc/h264 template in MF6+ and use it in VS11+

How to make your own custom template ( AVC/H264 ) to use in VS11+

You need to have purchased the retail version of MF6+ & installed the MF6+ HD-Add-On pack for this to work.

The template I describe below were the specs of your sample video.

First use MF6+ to make a 1920x1080 UFF (Upper Field First, 5000kbs (5MBS) CBR (Constant Bit Rate) Template with Dolby 5.1@384or448kbs audio.
Quality = 100% (compression).

After you have made the template go back to the timeline & make a very short slide show, just use one picture and add a very short audio track. I suggest using one picture from the 16x9 templates & 1 audio file from the MF6 templates.

Then from the timeline highlight the slide show, select export & select/use your custom template you previously had made. Double check & make sure the fielding is correct.
Then Create the short avc/h264 video on the harddisk.
Close MF6+

Now to use that file as a template in VS11+ for exporting avc/h264 perform the following:
1) -Open VS11+
2) -Goto "Tools -> Make Movie Template Manager"
3) -Click on "ADD" - Assign a name for the template (Ex: AVCHD_5MBS_UFF)
3a) - Now in the "File Path" click on the "Browse Icon" (....)
4) - Browse to the video file you exported from MF6+ and select it, VS11+ will read it's video/audio properties and use them for this template.
4a) - Do not try to edit this template in VS11+ or it will be altered, you will then have to perform steps 1-4 again.

Now in VS11+ that you have this custom template to use it after you have finished with your project:
Goto: "Share -> Create Video File" look at the very bottom of the listing and select your custom template. After you select the template and goto naming the exported file you can review the encoding parameters in the lower left hand box.
If you click on "Options" you can also "Uncheck" the "SmartRender" box.
I happen to usually turn off "SmartRender" for AVC/H264 video.

The exported video is also AVCHD or Blu-Ray Disk compliant so if you use the exported video (by manually insertings it) in either the avchd or blu-ray modules
the video will not be re-encoded.

The only thing you may have to adjust is the bit-rate when you make the template in MF6+. This is because CBR when read back is interpreted as VBR. So you may need to try 8MBS CBR or even 10MBS. Either way VS11+ will probably encoded them as VBR when you apply the template. You will be able to adjust the correct amount going by the original file size compared to VS11+, your test video happened to come out smaller in size after I exported it to a new avc/h264 file from VS11+ timeline.

Good luck.
