Good day all

Nearing the end of our first really big production. I'm having a bit of trouble with editing some audio (namely removing some background hiss, etc.) I'd like to use an external audio editor, so I'll obviously need to have my audio files seperate from the video files.

I've got the whole project finalised, with many clips, edits, titles, images, transistions, etc. How do I now go about extracting the audio from a clip in the middle of the project in order to get access to the wave file I'll need for editing? My guess is to start by splitting the audio (and I guess I'll loose any audio fade settings already set) This then leaves an audio clip in the narration section of the video timeline. How can I extract that single piece of audio so I can then replace with the edited file?

Normally, I would tell you to go to Share>Create Audio file, which creates a separate wav file. But since you have your entire project nearly finished, that wav file would contain all of your audio.

In your case, since you already split the audio simply drag that audio clip up to the Audio Library, where a copy will be created. Now clear the timeline (start a new project) and insert that audio clip. Now go to Share>Create Audio File to create the wav file.

Use that wav file in your external editor, then import back into VS and insert it in place of the original audio clip.

I was hoping there would be an easier way to do all that audio editing. I had thought of using your proposed solution, but there are quiet a number of clips. I'll go through them in order of importance, and clean up from the one that needs the most work on. Who said video editing was easy??

Perhaps that's a great wish for a future version. The ability to save a segment or item directly by right clicking on the icon in the timeline. That would allow a user (and me) to simply select, export and edit from there.

Come to think of it you can, by setting the Preview Range. While in Project mode (not Clip mode) mark in and mark out on the timeline where the beginning and ending of the clip is. A red line will then appear above the timeline, corresponding to you in and out points. Then use Share>Create Audio File.

I've done that by mistake before, but couldn't replicate the actions successfully

For my purposes that will obviously only work where the timeline has only one audio clip at a given time, but should work for the majority of the work.
