Major flickering on VCR capture

Post by RedExpress »

On VS 9 I've been able to capture all video really well but VS11.5 isn't giving me the love.

I've getting major flickering from the VCR image, like the link between the VCR and VS11.5 is out of sequence. Watching the VCR on a regular TV is fine.

I'm capturing with a DVICO composite device.

I notice that the templates in the capture area (PAL recording) you can only capture with Upper Field First and I don't seem to be able to change them to Lower Field First.

I know this information is a little scant but any ideas would help greatly.

I happen to have a Dvico twin HDTV/capture card. It captures either to transport stream .tp version of mpeg-2 or to mpeg-2 itself. But you cannot set it to capture either Upper or Lower Field. That depends on what is being broadcast or the capture source. However, Upper Field First seems to be the norm with TV captures. And frankly, I am not sure why you would be worried if it too was used with your VCR captures. It is, after all, an analogue source. Moreover, it does not capture in DV format which is the only one which requires Lower Field First as a fixed rule. In other words, as long as you maintain UFF throughout your project and in the burn to DVD, you should be right.
