I am using 11.5 to edit my .mov files from my Panasonic camera.
After I split the audio and apply hiss reduction sound is just static (loud static). All other audio filters seem to work.
Changed .mov file to avi but still happened.
Very New user so perhaps misunderstanding something basic?

VS is a pretty good video editor, but not so good when it comes to audio editing. You will find that many users on this forum use third party apps for their audio. Audacity is a very powerful, easy to use, yet free, app that you may want to check out.

I use a separate audio editor, and I don't know anything about Video Studio's hiss reduction. But, I can give you some information about noise reduction filters.

Noise reduction works best when you have a constant low-level background noise (like background hiss). In other words, it works best when you need it least... when you already have a good signal-to-noise ratio.

With most noise-reduction filters, you need to feed the filter a noise-only sample, so it can compare the noise to the combined sound sound in the file. Then, you sometimes need to adjust the settings. If the noise reduction is too agressive, it can remove some desired-sound along with the noise, or you can get artifacts... Sometimes you are better-off leaving some of the noise.

Thank you to everyone for their replies. I should have pointed out that the filter works when tested in the "Options" box and you can alter its sensativity - it is when you go to play file in VS that the sound is completely replaced with loud static, like when the needle on the old record players would gather too much fluff and just scoot across album.
Thank you, I will look at outside filters but had a problem syncronising sound to video when I did that originally. Perhaps best to change the .mov file to .avi with the MP4camtoAVI converter that also filters sound on conversion.
Maybe, as another Panasonic user on my camera forum suggests I should use Apple programme to edit .mov files.

i got the same problem just like "Zigsta", but i not sure the this problem is caused by filter or other kind of issues, as i see from the the Ulead while i adding on the MOV file, that because the volume of the MOV can't be control, I means, when i add the MOV file before save the project, the MOV clip is working fine with any "loud static" sound, BUT after saving the project, seems that the MOV volume of the MOV file is being control by the project ... anyway, i try all the suggestion in here ... all are NOT working .... NOT working...



I have working in this problem for weeks ... still not working ... anyone can have more suggestions here... Please help !!!!

Is your MOV video clip from a digital still camera, if so could it be from a Kodak camera? You might try this fix provided by Member Bill, bsuthers:
