I replaced my hard drive, reinstalled windows XP and reinstalled VS11 on my new hard drive. I now get an error "file format mismatch" when I try and open up any wmv files. WMV is not even on the list under "files of type" when I try to import a video file.
When I installed VS11 I got
error 1904.Module C:\ProgramFiles\commonfiles\UleadSystems\mpeg\ulsdvideoengine.dll Failed to register. HRESULT-2147024769. Contact Your Support Personnel
ABORT RETRY IGNORE
I clicked ignore & the program finished installing.
Im assuming this is related to the wmv problem that I am having, but not sure...
I manually uninstalled VS11 & followed directions for installing "hot fix". When installing hot fix, I got "Fatal error has occured while patching".
I found a web site that talks about the error but its in Japanese & I cant get anything out of it... Its at

When you re-installed XP did you update it to at least SP2? VS11 requires XP2 to install and run.
The Hot Fix does not apply to your problem. It is for a specific error related to the AVControl SDK error while installing.
Try completely un-installing VS, including the Ulead Folder found under the Common Files folder. Before re-installing, go to Microsoft's website, download and install the latest DirectX, which is June 2008. Once that is done then try to install VS.
Since you are concerned with WMV, you might as well download and install the Windows Media Encoder 9 Series from the MS website. This will provide you with more WMV encoding options.
