I'm afraid tech support were unable to help. I was given the usual advice: uninstall, reinstall, clear cache, clear temp files, etc but the app crashed every single time. I eventually declared the software "not fit for purpose" and returned it to Amazon for a refund.

I have since purchased and installed Pinnacle 11 Ultimate. It is not perfect and freezes occasionally but at least I can use it without it crashing every time I begin editing.

Black Lab -- thanks for those links. Like everyone else, I had no idea Corel had inserted this program into their software. But running msconfig, I find it is indeed there under Services, and running! I must give some serious thought to this since clearly it is not mentioned in any of the EULAs of the Corel programs I have installed on my system...

This is really upsetting. I just bought 11.5 and also have the Panasonic camcorder and am having the same issues. I managed after several attempts to edit a 3 minute file and render but wonder what will happen when I have larger files. I hope Corel fix this as I do really like this software.

I just tried to play the file I converted to AVCHD mpeg file and it would not play on windos media player or vlc or real. I m ay try to convert to MPEG 2 HD and see what happens.

As far as I am aware, none of the players you used (WMP, Real, VLC) are rated to play AVCHD files. You have to use a player rated to do so. These include recent versions of PowerDVD, WinDVD and Nero.

I also tried PowerDVD v7 that came with my PC, I got sound but no video.

I think PowerDVD 7 Ultra version was rated to play such video, but I think all versions of the current PowerDVD 8 can play it...

Thanks for all your help. I think the OEM version is light. My options are to upgrade the OEMs of Nero or PowerDVd, any advice on which is better with most files?

Once agina thanks for you help

I personally prefer PowerDVD, but that is probably because I have been using successive versions for years. WinDVD Platinum (a Corel/Ulead product) also does a good job... I only use Nero ShowTime occasionally. But I just tested the current version (part of the Nero 8 suite) using, coincidentally enough, an AVCHD/m2ts file from a Panasonic SD9, and it plays beautifully. But in reality, the controls on all the programs are much the same...

Corel's software for playing back Video is WinDVD, the most recent version is 9 and it comes in three flavours.

WinDVD 9 standard
WinDVD 9 Plus
WinDVD 9 Plus - Blue Ray

Interesting
Just bought Pan - SD9 / using version 11.5.0157.1 Plus from Corel
system - Intel corel 2 - dual cpu 2.4 GHz - with 4 Gb Ram
Because of similar software problems encountered as discribed in the other messages, just upgraded my Video Card from 256 Mb to a Nvidia Ge Force 8800 GT / 512 Mb
Problems still there - 'program stopped working ' message all the time
Tried both file formats from the SD-9 - direct downloading MTS as well as M2TS -does not make any difference - program hangs
Pls keep me posted on how to solve - thanks / Frank

I now have both VideoStuido 11.5 and Pinnacel Studio 12. One thing I could so it edit and convert to MPEG2-HD using Pinnacle and then use VideoStudio to convert that file to h.264. A bit round about bit since I have bought both software, the only solution. Would I loose much in quailty?

If my recordings are avchd 1920 x 1080, 17Mbps, 5.1 sound, what MPEG2-Hd settings/compression/bitrate etc. would keep the same quality?
