Hi,
Maybe a simple question but...
To capture video from a tape camcorder to be used for editing.
I have a few optiond including DV and MPG.
I assume DV would be the best format for editing at a later stage?
Thanks

Yes, DV-AVI is basically a lossless format, and VS responds well to editing it. MPEG-2, on the other hand, will produce smaller file sizes but it is a lossy format. And, some people have problems with artifacts and audio synching when editing MPEGs.

You can't put avi files on a DVD. You must first render them to DVD-compliant MPEG-2 files.

And 70 minutes of DV/AVI, once edited, and converted to mpeg-2 using high quality settings (8000 kbps bitrate) and either Dolby or mpeg layer 2 audio, will certainly fit on a single layer DVD, including with a menu.
