VideoStudio 11+ won't start

Post by Paul B »

I'm at my wits' end here.

I downloaded VideoStudio 11+ TBYB (UVS11Plus_TBYB_EUS.exe 144,320KB) from Corel Website. Ran trial version untill it expired. Worked great. Purchased activation key. Inserted activation key according to directions. The program started and everything worked great.

The next day I tried to start Vstudio and it would not start. Tried everything. I downloaded UVS11Plus_TBYB_EUS.exe again from email receipt and ran the installation. I got a message to confirm the uninstall. Clicked OK and confirmed the remove settings message. Then I got this message: "Setup could not find C:\Documents and setings\User\Local\Temp\pft14.tmp\VideoStudio.msi" I clicked cancel. I got this message: Error 1612 Installation source for product not available." I clicked OK and Installation ended. Still couldn't open VStudio.

Performed an uninstall but it failed. Used the Windonws Installer CleanUp Utility (msicuu2.exe) to uninstall UVS 11+. Reinstalled VideoStudio. Program started and worked great.

The next time I tried to start UVS 11+ it wouldn't start. I uninstalled using the CleanUp Utility and reinstalled. Still didn't work. I uninstalled and TOTALLY cleaned the registry of every instance of Ulead VideoStudio and SmartSound Quicktracks. I reinstalled and set the DEP to exclude vstudio.exe. Still it would not start.

I downloaded and tried to install Patch/UVS11_Patch_Eng.exe per Corel help. At the Ulead VideoStudio 11+ splash screen I got the message "Installer can not find Ulead VideoStudio 11 on your machine." Clicking the OK ended the installation. I uninstalled and reinstalled VideoStudio 11+ and tried to install UVS11_Patch_Eng.exe with the same results. I downloaded dxwebsetup.exe per Corel help instruction and installed it successfully. I tried to install UVS11_Patch_Eng.exe and once again got the message "Installer can not find Ulead VideoStudio 11 on your machine" at the splash screen. VideoStudio 11+ still will not start.

So what do you think? How can I get this bad boy to work? Thanks.

Welcome to the forums,

What you're experiencing is what we recommend against doing, activating a TBYB version. There seems to be a problem with activated TBYB, specifically being able to install updates/patches.

We recommend purchasing a full version (upgrades are full versions), uninstalling the TBYB, before installing the full version.

If you're running Vista, you might try setting it to Run as Administrator. Right-click on the desktop icon, select Properties. Then on the Shortcut tab click Advanced, and check the box beside Run as Admin. This should not be required for VS11 to run on Vista, but worth a shot.

If that does not work, I would contact Corel and request a download link to a full version.

Ron,

You were absolutely right. After all the dorking around with the Corel online tech response, including the one where I'm asked to click the "?" in the upper right corner of the program screen that I CAN'T open, I called Corel and they fixed me right up. They were really quite decent about it.

So now UVS 11+ is running and they threw in a HUGE cache of content for my trouble. Whether it actually works or not, I haven't had time to find out. I've got to get back to my REAL job after screwing with this thing for the last three days.

Thanks for your spot on advice. It worked.
