I've been a Roxio user for years and have loved video editing. However, I'm in the market for something new.
So far, I like what I see with Video Studio 11.5. I have one niggling question, however: will I be able to edit videos that I create with V11.5 in future versions? This is a huge gripe I have with Roxio Easy Media Creator, so I would really like to find video editing software that will do that, that will allow me to access/edit/update older videos in future versions of the same software.
Does that make sense? If so, is Video Studio "forward compatible"? Is it the one for me?
Thanks for your help!

In a word, yes. VideoStudio uses a project file called a VSP, which is really just a text file that tells VS what clips to use, where the transitions go, etc. A VSP created in v9 can be opened in v11. I assume that will hold true in subsequent versions.
I must warn you however, that the VSP does not "hold onto" your clips or anything associated with your project. Say you created a project in v9, saved the project (VSP), and burned to disc. What I typically due at that point is remove the clips from my system. If you then try to open that VSP in any version it will not be able to find the assocated clips, because they are no longer there. So to open a project made in a previous version you would have to keep all associated files.
I hope I explained that clearly.
